GOAL Post 2006-9
Legislative Update from Olympia 3 March 2006
SIX DAYS LEFT IN THE 2006 REGULAR SESSION
SECOND HOUSE (CHAMBER) CUT-OFF TODAY
ESHB 2951 (RETIRED PEACE OFFICER CARRY) PASSES
SHB 2958 (ILLEGAL USE OF TOXIC SHOT) PASSES
AT MIDNIGHT THURSDAY, 9 MARCH, LEGISLATURE ADJOURNS
Six days remain in the 2006 regular session. At this time it does not appear a special session will be called. It’s not over yet, and strange things can happen, but it would appear that gun owners will get a pass from the legislature this year.
The two final gun-related bills still in play passed out of the Senate in their original House-passed form before today’s 5 p.m. chamber cut-off. ESHB 2951 (retired police officer concealed carry certification) and SHB 2958 (penalty for illegal use of toxic—lead—shot) will head to the governor’s office for her signature in the next few days.
The 2006 regular legislative session will adjourn at midnight on Thursday, 9 March. Despite the Tacoma Mall shooting incident and promises by gun control advocates to push for more anti-gun legislation this year, no gun control bills passed. Six days remain, so we’re not out of the woods yet, but barring a tragic incident that could be exploited to pull a gun bill out of committee for fast action on the floor, we should be able to close the book on the 2006 session with our gun rights intact (at least as intact as they were when the session started).
