sent, repeatedly, to many people..
..And forwarded to everyone in my address book.. |

Better get your facts straight before you go posting a lot of email and telephone numbers to the Representatives and Senators on this issue.
Sen Gwen Margolis is a STATE Senator. The FLORIDA legislature is NOT THE VENUE of Floridas' U-S Reps. and Senators you posted here. State Ban: STATE Legislature. Federal Ban: Congress. Fight it right, and get to know your facts and focus on the objective. Nasty E-Mails to Congressional Folks who have NOTHING to do with proposed Florida STATE ban will just perpetuate the stereotype that Gun Owners don't even know the difference between state and federal lawmakers and which side handles what laws. Good fight. Wrong targets. |
|
I sent two email out, one to Senator Gwen Margolis, and one to my State Senator Rod Smith.

Can't believe these clowns won't let us rest!!! No reason to lump the crime rate on people who enjoy building and firing weapons.
Drshame is right, though. The correct legislators need to be contacted (and often). Wish I knew as much as THEY DO! |
|
|
I sent emails to my state reps and the senate as soon as I got an alet from Unified Sportsman of Florida.
We've gotta stay on top of this one and kill it. |
|
fired off an email to my state rep Fredrick Brummer. My freaking senator doesn't have a public email account. I am going to give him a call on Monday morning. If this bill passes that makes my mind up I am leaving this place.

For the SECOND TIME:
Better get your facts straight before you go posting a lot of email and telephone numbers to U-S Representatives and Senators on this issue. Sen Gwen Margolis is a STATE Senator. Good fight. Wrong targets. THE FEDS HAVE NOTHINGTO DO WITH THIS! It's the State Legislature. Calling Floridas' Congessional Delegation does nothing but let them think we're so stupid we don't know the difference between a STATE Proposal and a FEDERAL one. |

Here is an E-mail that the NRA Institute for Legislative Action sent me.
This would be a good time to go to the NRA web site and sigh up for the E-mail alerts. Court .223 Dear Court It has started !! The threat by the Brady Campaign/Million Mom Marchers to reenact the Clinton Gun Ban state by state has started with Florida. The first Gun Ban bill has been filed for the 2005 Florida Legislative Session which begins in March 2005. The bill has not been referred to committees yet. We will notify members when it has been referenced and will provide email addresses to legislators you need to contact to help fight this bill. SB 500 - Assault Weapons/Detachable Magazine Ban by Gwen Margolis (D-Miami Beach); Would ban the manufacture, importation, possession, purchase, sale, or transfer of any semi-automatic firearm defined as "assault weapons" and any detachable magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds. It would require forfeiture and confiscation of any such firearm or magazine. Further, it would require the state to destroy any such firearm within 60 days after confiscation or forfeiture. It provides immunity from prosecution if firearm is voluntarily surrendered. Otherwise, it makes a violation of the provisions of this bill a felony of the second degree (15 years in prison and $10,000 fine). Sincerely, NRA-Institute for Legislative Action |

I live in Miami and I would like to know who I should contact to kill this bill. |

I finally had a chance to write Rep. Adams, Sen. Constantine, and the author of the bill Sen. Margolis this morning. I don't think I'll hear anything back from them, but at least I've let them know how important it is to shoot this bill down.

How about a bill that deports Margolis's ass back to NY. |
|
|
You folks down there need to send "real" letters to these people. A real letter received usually represents to them the opinions of ten voters in their distrist!
|
|
Nice of her to write back. I am glad she thinks as I do. This is what she wrote about a week ago.
Dear Ryan: Thank You for contacting me and voicing your concerns regarding Senate Bill 500. At this time, the House does not have a sponsored companion bill relating to Assault Weapons/ Detachable Magazines. In the event this should occur, I wish to assure you that my position would be to uphold the second amendment of the Constitution and the rights of citizens to legally possess firearms. I appreciate your taking time to share your thoughts with me and hope you will continue to do so. Sincerely, Sandra "Sandy" Adams State Representative, District 33 |
|
Email Sent..Letters going out soon.

Send letters to your FLORIDA STATE Legislature.
In the FLORIDA STATE SENATE is where we must focus. Here's the links to finding out about the Senate Bill 500 aka "SB 500". Contact YOUR local STATE Senate representative... fight with letters! http://www.flsenate.gov/Welcome/index.cfm http://www.flsenate.gov/Legislators/index.cfm?Mode=Find%20Your%20Legislators&Submenu=3&Tab=legislators I've already written my letter and got a fense sitting response from my senator. SENATEI am writing to ask that you NOT support SB 500 - Assault Weapons/Detachable Magazine Ban by Gwen Margolis (D-Miami. Directly to the point, I strongly request that this bill be soundly defeated by members of the Florida Senate. After the demise of the ill conceived federal assault weapons ban it appeared that rational thought had prevailed. Sadly, I see that those with an agenda continue to ignore the rights and wishes of the voting public. It never ceases to amaze me how ignorance and fear can blind normally objective people to the facts. Military weapons are RARELY used in crime. Check with the Port Orange or Daytona Beach Police Departments... it is NOT assault weapons that are used by criminals. Our Constitution's second amendment is worth preserving. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear ARMS shall not be infringed.” For the misinformed who think the Militia is the US Army or National Guard, they might find this fact interesting: If you look up 'Militia' in the dictionary it is NOT a standing Army. Rather it is THE PEOPLE - and specifically in Jefferson's time "ALL able bodied men between the ages of 18 and 45". THAT is the Militia – according to the men who worte the constitution and affirmed even in YOUR modern day dictionary. Until the constitution of the United States is changed. THE Miltia – The People, and The RIGHT to BEAR ARMS is still the highest law of the land. Unfortunately some folks Fear the idea of ordinary citizens having ARMS – they believe this is reserved for only government…. This is EXACTLY what Hitler did – took away the individual citizens right to own arms. That is a fact. Finally, ARMS as defined by our founding fathers – do believe the founding fathers were talking about limiting the people to keeping and bearing ONLY rifles suitable for sporting purposes only? I don’t think they worth the second amendment to protect the rights of rabbit hunters. The founders clearly said ARMS as are appropriate for a MILITIA capable of defending a FREE STATE. Thank you for working against SB 500 - that dog won't hunt! |

WRITE TO YOUR FLORIDA LEGISLATURE - THE STATE SENATE.
sample letter below, use what you want of it. - I am writing to ask that you not support SB 500 - Assault Weapons/Detachable Magazine Ban. After the demise of the ill conceived federal assault weapons ban it appeared that rational thought had prevailed. It never ceases to amaze me how ignorance and fear can blind normally objective people to the facts. Military weapons are RARELY used in crime. Check with the Police Department... it is NOT assault weapons that are favored by criminals. Military rifles are NOT the problem. Now BOX cutters – yes indeed, terrorists killed thousands in NY and Washington D.C. using THAT weapon…. not a military rifle. Our Constitution's second amendment is worth preserving. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear ARMS shall not be infringed.” For the misinformed who think the Militia is the US Army or National Guard, they might find this fact interesting: Please look up the word 'Militia' in the dictionary. It is NOT a standing Army. Rather it is THE PEOPLE - and specifically in Jefferson's time "ALL able bodied men between the ages of 18 and 45". THAT is the Militia – according to the men who wrote the constitution. Look at YOUR modern day dictionary … the meaning has not changed. Until the constitution of the United States is changed, The Militia – The People , and The RIGHT to BEAR ARMS is still the highest law of the land. Unfortunately some folks fear the idea of ordinary citizens having military type rifles. They believe this is right is reserved for only government. This is EXACTLY what Hitler did – took away the individual citizen's right to own arms. Hitler disarmed private citizens for ‘national security’. God help us that our great Florida legislature never determines that THE PEOPLE can’t be trusted to own modern firearms. Finally, ARMS as defined by our founding fathers – do you believe the founding fathers were talking about limiting the people to keeping and bearing ONLY rifles suitable for sporting purposes? I don’t think they wrote the second amendment to protect the rights of rabbit hunters. The founders clearly said ARMS as are appropriate for a MILITIA, THE PEOPLE, capable of defending a FREE STATE. Thank you for working against SB 500 - A bill Hitler already enacted in Germany. Trust THE PEOPLE. With truly good wishes, |

BTW, in case some of you haven't read the wording of this bill (and HR companion) it doesn't allow for a grandfather clause. Any firearms currently owned that meet the description of banned weapons under the "Its a Crime, Bill" have to be immediately surrendered.
This MUST NOT pass! They'll get mine bullets and bayonets first. Steve L. |

I want to send this REAL letter to my FLORIDA STATE SENATOR. I was wondering if i'm on the right track:
Dear Mr. Bennett It has come to my attention that a bill (S 0500) has been filed by Senator Margolis that will outlaw “assault weapons” and high-capacity detachable magazines. I am writing because I would like to know your position regarding this new anti-firearm legislation. As an active District 21 Republican voter and avid gun enthusiast, it is very important to me to know where my representatives stand on this issue. On behalf of myself, and many thousands of other gun enthusiasts in Florida, I strongly request that this bill is soundly defeated in the Florida Senate. The right to own and operate firearms is provided by the Bill of Rights, and more importantly by our own state’s constitution. While the state constitution does provide the legislature the authority to regulate the manner in which civilians may bear arms, this new bill will do nothing to prevent crime, but rather turn thousands of law-abiding gun enthusiasts into felons. All five of the characteristics that make a firearm an “assault weapon,” along with high-capacity magazines have no effect on how dangerous the weapon is. That being said, the AWB will effectively ban guns that are less powerful than standard hunting rifles and less concealable than any available pistol because they merely look more dangerous than any other firearm. The U.S. congress failed to reauthorize the Federal Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, much to the relief of the sporting community; it appeared that rational thought had prevailed. It is now apparent, however that some of our “representatives” do not possess such rational thought. I ask again that you protect the people you represent from this bill that will encroach on our individual freedoms, and vote against bill S 0500. |
|
Thanks! It has the ARF stamp of approval and it's in the mail. :)
|
|
The proposed Bill is in committees now for study.
Write your letters to members of the committees - criminal justice, judiciary, and judiciary appropriations I believe. Here's the link: http://www.flsenate.gov/session/index.cfm?BI_Mode=ViewBillInfo&Mode=Bills&SubMenu=1&Year=2005&billnum=500 Protect your rights. Your Silence is agreement that you don't value your 2nd ammendment right to bear arms. |
