Invest some time looking into what they offer you and you wouldn't need to ask. In my opinion it is probably they best of the best stocks for what they are designed for. I still might get me one later down the road if my rifle ever gets used how I intended it to be.

I'm guessing that it's for long range performance?  I'll have to look into them a bit more. sorry, I don't even own an M1a yet.  Just been looking at pictures more than anything.

I suggest that you weigh your options... literally.

What's the weight of a synthetic or wood stock from SA?  these are 3.5 to 6 lbs seems a bit much.

For comparison purposes, a USGI synthetic stock with all the hardware weighs about 2 pounds 14 ounces.

Like I said, "for what they are designed for". They are not your run of the mill featherweights. It is a much heavier stock designed for percision in a rugged chassis able to except anything option in rifle build easily. Heavy barrel, double lugs receiver no problem and no bedding required. Pretty sweet if your looking for a stock like that, but many would say is too heavy with and too expensive for thier taste.

I have one on my M1A loaded and I love it. I agonized over the price before buying but I am so happy I decided to get it. It cut group sizes about in half on my M1A loaded model. Hits on the 600 yard targets are no problem (farthest range I have had it on).

Sure it's heavier than a regular stock, but I am not exactly planning on taking it on any road marches or long range patrols any time soon. Those days are long behind me. For what it offers in improved accuracy and ergonomics the weight gain is a small price to pay. No bedding required was the biggest selling point to me. Super solid construction. That kind of quality costs some weight. All in all I don't feel it's that heavy but I used to hump an M60 in the old days and was issued an M14 for my last 4 years in so the M16/M4 seems more like a toy in comparison weight wise. The extra weight and excellent recoil pad make shooting it a pure joy too.

I had wood military SA stocks fail on me.  Switched to gi synthetics and am fine.

I prefer the looks and "bedding" system of the Sage better, but the JAE is kickass if you like to keep the Traditional lines of the M1A.

Here is the thing, you're never going to have a "light rifle" with the M1A/M14. It's a heavy platform. The benefits that a stock like the JAE or SAGE brings outweighs the gain in weight IMHO.

The JAE is an excellent stock, especially if you do a lot of bench or belly shooting. It is ok as a tactical stock, but the SAGE and Troy rigs are better suited to this IMHO.

C_Swimm, can you share the specs of your M1A? I'm planning to build exactly the one you have, very nice rifle!:)

Love mine, hard to beat when you use optics on the 14.
