+1 on the tack - thanks for putting it all in one post, it beats having to go fishing at the beretta forum.
Note: 32 round 92FS mags are NOT recommended - I have had no end of trouble with the three brands I tried. |
|
Bummer,
I just ran 4-500 through my 30 round mags a few weeks ago and another 200 last weekend on the reactionary steel targets with zero issues... go figure. I had heard other reports so I wanted to see if they were reliable or not. So far not a single issue with rapid fire drills. - Dave |

What is the manufacturer?
I am going to load some up 20-25 rounds and see if I can duplicate your failure with mine, as I had not been slapping them around... Thanks for the pictures, better to have a failure now than when I am counting on it. - Dave |

Actually, it's probably matte paint. The other three I have are USA magazines, which I had thought would be crappier - they choke when half-full and bumped. FWIW, the bodies are probably what matter here anyways. I am looking around for followers that fit the pistol mag body (or do them up in CAD and have them made), and run something like MP5 springs or something one can actually get to see if they can be made to have sufficient, and even tension to prevent this while still feeding reliably. Something tells me the Glock 33 rd mag mod for a CX4 is more worth pursuing |

I just picked up my CX4 Storm in .45 yesterday, took it to the range and left a happy camper. Can't say the wife was happy when she found out the price though, but who pays the bills? Oh well. My question is with regard to the ammo. When I bought the carbine, the guy selling it said that .45 ammo is hard to find right now (in NY :) but that he did have 185 grain HP. He was happy to sell those to me, but said that I should really look for 230. Why? Also, any idea if preban high cap. mags exist for the .45 or did I just walk into an 8 nail corner? Also (sorry, noob to this gun and forum) lets talk range. Between 25-45/50 yeard I had pretty tight center groupings. Past that and I would have hit all 7 continents on a map. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I think the .45 CX4 mags are only 8rders––-I might've heard a while back about a mag extension that took it to 11 maybe. I use the 9mm 17rd mags with +3 because they're loaded with Speer GDHP in 124gr +P flying out of that barrel at 1350fps.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I think you are pretty well screwed with 8 (.45) or 11 (.40) with stone reliable factory mags. If you check on the Beretta forums, there might be magwell adaptors that you can use for larger mags, but NY presents a problem. I shoot lead bullets in my 9mm, so I presume the .45 doesnt have polygonal rifling. You'll love your carbine, but if you want lots o'shots, the 9mm is the way to go. I have 20rd MecGars for mine, and they work. Moon |

I thought I was the only cx4 owner to run dual charging handles... |

This isnt mine.....but is what i did to mine. Nothin a dremel and paint cant take care of. It should be noted that 922r compliance is still needed when you do this stock modification. A US made part on the list is needed. But I feel that I am preaching to the quior here on ARFCOM about legal matters.

Here is mine. All that is left is to contour all my cuts and edges and make provisions for an extended rail on top.

I like the wole flat top concept but wouldn't
be easier attempting to replace the existing sights themselves. Maybe a A2 front sight and a smaller apeturer rear? |

Also, how many more US made parts are needed to make it 922r compliant? That would be a good reason to get the trigger upgrade. |

Relevant to interests! Thanks for all the info. Oh, so tagged.

One of the members of The Beretta Forum, "mr_rogers", is developing a CX4 .45 high capacity magazine. Here is the 19+ page thread:

When it comes to CX-4 stuff, he puts his money where his mouth is. Good guy, good company, good products, if SP is behind this it will be done right. |

If you do the stock mod than you will need a us made part......but you might as well get both the hammer and the trigger. The stock mods are very easy if you go slow. You will, if you take off the amt I did, run into hollow plastic. The moldable putty steel you get at an auto parts store words great to fill in the areas and dries rock hard. The sights are the hard part as you need to do quite a bit of fab work if you want a full length rail that looks OEM. |
|
That's just too cool! I'm not that brave though, unless Beretta sells replacement stocks for when I mess up.
You could probably install an ACE folding stock mechanism on there. Now THAT would be "different" looking. Now I want another Storm. |
|
Thanks Onslaught. I considered the possibility of failure, however since the threads of the buffer tube are 1 3/16" and the width of the CX4 is greater than that––-I knew there'd be a good chance it could be done. It was done in steps, as cutting the stock off would reveal a "void" which needed to be filled with epoxy to give a good surface for drilling. Since that stuff sets up in just a few minutes I knew I could get it "solidified" quickly. Drilling it out is very messy however. Once you're done drilling test fit. There was also the possibility that someone else in the industry was making a side-folder and that would be equally as cool for this setup. I did the whole modification for $80, stock and RE included.

|
I bet you could find something HERE that could be used to make a rock-solid folding stock for the Storm. (hint hint)
Or what about an AGP Arms folder from Spike's Tactical? |
|
LMTRocks- You sir, are my hero. What kind of epoxy? The stuff called plastic weld seems pretty good.
A side folder on a Cx4 would totally change that gun for me. I've had a 9mm for many years now and mostly lost interest in it until this thread. Folding stock would make that a very short gun since the barrel length starts at the pistol grip. AGP folder and a suppressor might just make that a really cool gun. |
|
Check out www.sierrapapacx4.com and try to contact them. I believe I heard them say they were planning a side-folder type stock mod for the CX4. I'm not interested in a side folder, but seeing the black one that apparently sold on gunbroker a few years ago made me think. When I start thinking, strange things happen.....
I used LocTite 5 minute quickbond type epoxy for the setup. 1 container to do the whole modification. Perhaps a side-folder setup would be in the works with the right engineering. |
