Anybody load the 70 gr Speer in 223

From what I have read its a sledgehammer for a 224 bullet.

Because of the blunt nose shape these bullets need a relatively short overall length. This may not be an issue with a 5.56mm chamber. Make sure your loaded round does not jam into the rifling. Because these need to be loaded so deep for SAAMI chambers the result is the bullet consumes a lot of the powder capacity.

Don't expect the great wind bucking ability of similar weight match bullets. 68 through 77 grain match bullets fly much better in the wind.

For my keltec su-16 with a 1:9 and a 5.56 cut chamber they work very well. I do not have a crony, but using benchmark with WSR primers at or near max load of 23 gr seems to work very well at 100, 200 and 300 yards .  I also use a COL of 2.25 as I like to shoot out of a mag. I could go longer with single feed, but too lazy.  At the same time In my home town of Lewiston Idaho with the factory a half mile away I can only find these at the local shops every Five to six months?

Hello, after pulling out 10 of the Speer 70 gr. sp. bullets out of a box of 60 at random, they measured on the whole + or - around .775 in length. I hope this helps

I just picked up a 1:7 twist upper mostly to shoot the 70 gr TSX but then I found these bullets that are a lot cheaper
and supposedly sledgehammers.

Also have a 1:9 twist savage and from what I have read they will stabilize in a 1:9 twist.
COL from other sites was 2.2

Quickload lists the bullet as .808" long. Have some on the way to verify.
