Nice!  I have made one out of wood but just taping the shell holder with cartridge in the hollowed wood block.  I put a LONG handle on it and pulled with a single tap.

Is it registered with the ATF

Looks like a cross between a Zip Gun and a Pipe Bomb.

All Kinetic’s seem to set off a round on occasions… might want to add some vent holes on the side away from the handle to allow for that possibility.

I made one similar to that a while back, but I have a special clip that retain the shell holder in place. Its much quicker to change the rounds out. Just pull the clip, drop the holder out, exchange rounds, insert holder and push clip back in.

But I like your idea as well!

Seriously? is it better to pull them with the press puller instead? or risk there as well?

I have pulled quite a few bullets in the past year and never set one off. In fact, I have never read anywhere of anyone ever setting one off.

ok good to know. being new and not yet with equipment in hand or experience pulling rounds, i'm pretty sure each of you at some point feel like i do when you see a hammer to pull a round, i get the concept. doesn't mean i'm comfortable with it just yet though
I'll probably load a dummy round just to get a 'feel' for how hard i need to smack it and not have my heart racing trying to feel that out

I've pulled nearly 4k rounds with kinetic pullers and never had one go off (my original RCBS puller did bite the dust around 2k though, my newer Fulton is still going strong). Aside from being slow, I prefer it to collet pulling, since it doesn't damage the bullets.

Have you used that tool?

I would guess the threads would fatigue and crack from the constant pounding.

What are you hitting with it?

I've had to pull ~300 .45 ACP rounds due to insufficient powder .  Got it down to a single impact on most using the Midway puller.  No issues with breaking, just quite messy with powder everywhere.

I've used a shell holder from time to time in mine. Usually a Lee auto-prime shell holder. I don't normally have any high primers but it is something I will keep in mind.

I don't like how loose the cartridge is when held with a shell holder. The "normal" collet type holders that come with the units hold the cartridge tightly. A shell holder by nature has to accommodate various size (within reason of course) rim thickness. Every time you smack that puller down using a shell holder you apply extra force on the case rim because of the loose fit.

I use mine for pulling down lacquer cased 7.62x54R ammo. I then use the powder and bullet in a brass case with fresh primer. This has practically eliminated the "fliers" that I got from the original ammo.

I then bell mouth the steel case and load it with one of my cast 160gr bullets for my sub-sonic "match" ammo.

The plastic puller works exceptionally well with the 54R because of it being a rimmed case. I could not imagine using the OP's puller to do a few hundred rounds of it. It looks like it would take a week to do.

This is great.  Thank you.

I get so tired of the stupid collets breaking.  This should fix that.
