This stuff works!!! Bought a bottle of this stuff at WalMart last night and dumped some brass in it. The black soot flaked off. Some pieces have a pinkish color to it. Did you tumble the brass first? I think I might give this stuff a try. |
|
One lot was from a recent match with no prior tumbling and the soot started to flake off. I will tumble them in about an hour.

You should mix it with water, the pink brass was exposed too to much acid in the mixture and removed something from the brass, Birchwood Casey brass cleaner will do this also if mixed to strong or if left in the mixture to long. 5 Min's top's and it should be good in the Birchwood mix but not sure about the time for the LimiShine, depends on how strong it's mixxd.

I disagree with this. Limi-Shine will turn your brass pink if it is tarnished. Leave it in the Lemi-Shine for a day or two and dry the cases. Throw in a tumbler with walnut and the pink will be gone. Lemi-Shine contains Citric Acid which will not harm brass. I tested some different strength solutions. From 1/8t per 6 floz to 3t per 6 floz. The only difference in the brass was the stronger solution worked faster. The brass that went into the solution clean, had no difference after 3 days. The tarnished brass was pink but throwing it in the tumbler will remove it. |

I read a thread that talked about this stuff yesterday. I went to get dog food today, and turned around the the Lemon stuff was there?!?!!?
I set up two tubs at 11am this morning, and with in minutes the black was lifting away. |

Lemishine straight from the bottle won't do much. It's powdered and must be mixed with water. I dump maybe two or three tablespoons into hot water in a plastic container sold with nuts at Sam's then shake it to dissolve. So far I've never saturated a solution. The solutions I mix work well and the strength is enough to make cause an open cut to sting. One more item for reloading to hoard before all the noobs cause a shortage! I wonder if Walmart tracks the gender of buyers. |

I bought the second to the last bottle of Lemishine at the Pearl City Walmart. Let's start an alert for Lemishine availability. Obama might tax this precious resource of ours.

OK, wasnt sure if it was a liquid or a powder, but like most all other liquid brass cleaners if it's turning the brass pink it's mixxed to strong or leaving the brass in to long and removing the zinc from the brass. |
|
The problem with the zinc leaching is more noticeable with some makes of brass and not at all with others. The last batch I soaked had several 9mm cases that turned about as pink as any I've seen, and every one of them had berdan primers. The head stamp was tiny and I didn't bother to try to read it.

Still some pink not too bad. It does bring the bling out the in the brass. Does any one know how long the Lemon Soak will work? Lets ask I would like to do 3K 223 can I reuse the water and do some 308, a few days later? |

|
I reused mine until it got the color of a green chicken egg. After sitting for several months, the solution had some really nasty scum, so I tossed it and mixed a new batch. I've also added a little Lemishine to old solution when I thought the original mix might be a little puny.
We're talking about a low cost solution here - experiment to find out what works. There's no way to have a complete failure. |

At least your brass is yellow to begin with.
I have some brass that was essentially black and you could not tell any difference between that and steel cases Wolf. Anything that black will come out pinkish. I don't think corncob is abrasive enough to remove most of that coloring. I just bought some more walnut, as I was out, and will give a report back. |

Walnut and Midway polish will clean just about anything given time....Corncob and Midway polish will give it a almost mirror shine after the Walnut

The pink is copper. Weathering causes the zinc to oxidize, leaving behind copper which then turns dark. Lemishine removes the zinc and oxidized copper, leaving behind a copper "blush". Extensive polishing will remove it. |

OK, how is LemiShine different than a vinegar solution? Is it cheaper, have something other than citric acid?
I soak brass in a solution of about 2 cup vinegar to 1 qt water for two hours. I can do a couple of batches in one solution (about 200 rifle cases or 400 pistol cases). Rinse and dry then tumble two hours in corn cob media with a squirt of carnuba car wax. Comes out very clean and shiny. Why buy a special product instead of vinegar? |

This is great. I took all my range pickup brass and put it in a Lemishine mixture the other night after sizing/depriming, then tumbled in walnut for about an hour, followed by a couple of hours in corn cob with polish.
There are a few that were still rather pinkish, so I put them back in the solution overnight. The rest of the brass is awesome, though. I've never seen brass look this nice without tumbling all night long, and even then the badly oxidized ones don't get much better. The oxidized brass has now had 2 nights of Lemishing with cleaning/polishing in between. I'll clean/polish again tonight and see if all the pink is gone... |

I've used a mixed solution with both and couldn't tell the effectiveness was improved with vinegar, so I stopped using that for brass; it's exquisite on beans. |
|
Can the Lemishine solution be saved and reused, or is it best to throw it out after each batch of brass is soaked? I bought some (Walmart) but haven't tried it yet. This sounds like a great idea as I like my brass to shine like gold.
|
|
Re-use it. The solution turns light blue-green, about the color of an egg. The only problem I had was with a real old batch that had some serious scum after sitting for four or five months, so I tossed it out.
|
|
After a batch of brass, I dump it in the toilet bowl and it removes the scum in there as well. It also leaves a lemony smell as well
