Well, here it is.  In response to the outrage caused by the discontinuation of the GSG-5 resulting from the settlement of the lawsuit between GSG/ATI & H&K, German Sport Guns and American Tactical Imports are happy to announce the new GSG522 series of .22LR firearms.  Where H&K got to take their ball and go home, part of the agreement was that with a few changes to the look of the gun, GSG could continue to manufacture and ATI could continue to import a mechanically identical gun with subtle exterior changes to differentiate the gun from the original licensed MP-5 design, now to be made by Umarex.  Now, the pictures:

A shaped and textured cocking handle for smoother cocking

Receiver cap has built in picatinny rail for 1" weaver style scopes and red dot sights


Alternate design safety selector switch because I think we had to have one more thing different to get H&K to go along with it.

The GSG522PK with light weight receiver making it less than 50oz and legal for sale in NY.  I don't have a pic yet but we also have the GSG522PK Single Shot with a bullet button, making it legal for sale in CA as a single shot.  Hang out for your 10 day once you get one and it still operates with regular GSG Magazines.  I'm sure we'll all have plenty of discussions about this in the near future.  We tried not to forget about you CA.

We also have on the way, which we won't have images of for you until Shot Show GSG-5 Carbines coming in Real Nickel receivers, Digital Camo Receivers and Black Receivers with shiny wooden fluted grips and stocks.  GSG is also going a step further by also offering GSG522 and GSGAK-47 with light weight receiver bodies designed to attract the attention of child and female shooters.  We'll see how that goes.  The GSG522 series also will have a lower price point than the former GSG-5 series with the light weights being even lower than that.  MSRP is not being released until Shot Show, so we'll have more for you after we get back.

Now, here's where me telling you not to worry about parts being discontinued because the guns were discontinued.  Man, I still get so many worried calls and emails.  Everything internally is the same with some attention paid to trying to solve some reoccurring issues.  Please, don't start asking me about the screws, I have no idea what GSG will be able to do yet as we have just started tallying the most problematic areas at their request.  We have time though as these guns will most likely not be available until 2 quarter of the year, still getting everything finalized with the ATF.  Anyway, don't like the new design too much?  Prefer the original H&K MP-5 look?  Well, just because they can't be manufactured or imported that way doesn't mean that the private individual can't change their gun.  Plus, what the heck is GSG supposed to do with all those parts?

By the way in case Chris forgot to mention, that rail that comes on the GSG-522 is removable if you don't like it or want it, it comes with the gun but it's not built permanently onto it.

Yes, that is correct that the rail is removable.  Some other tid bits of info from Michael at GSG upon seeing your responses (for which we all gratefully thank you), the new light weight versions of the GSG522 and AK-47 have a strong polymer receiver that greatly reduce the over all weight of the gun.  If you're liking the rotary magazine but concerned about the weight, Michael says a fully loaded rotary mag in a light weight still gives the GSG522 a slightly lighter feel than the original style with a standard magazine.  More constant shooting with no arm ache is a good thing.  Michael has also said that we will discuss the possible upgrade for the old GSG to the GSG522 at shot show as an accessory.  I will definately be bringing up the status on the SD conversion again as well when we see them to see how that whole thing is coming along.

GSG522 excitement aside, wanted to let you guys know too that we have finally gotten everything finalized with ATF on the 1911.  We are green for importation of them, so once GSG starts pumping them out we'll start getting to the shelves.

The 1911, I'm hoping we'll do a shipment of guns and mags for February.

The GSG522, at this time, I'm guessing second quarter, maybe March if we're lucky.  We have all 13 variations at ATF for testing still but the tester was here last week about the AT94 series and he said everything with them is great.  Once we receive the documents from Firearms Tech Branch saying the guns are hunky dory, I then have to submit to import in quantity.  That form has to run it's course through the ATF Firearms & explosives imports branch for approval, which can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks depending on how backed up they are.  Once it's approved, then we're green lit to start shipping containers.  So, as you can see, GSG and ATI have this in full swing to the point where we don't have control over the timing anymore, it's all on ATF and their schedule.  Same goes for the rotary mag, they have not stated whether they want to test one yet or not, if they do not need to test one, we may be able to start bringing those in in February.  The rotary mag will function with GSG522, original GSG and GSGAK.

Hehe no there will still be girls, don't you worry. I haven't started casting for our next model yet, though I have heard your requests for a "girl next door" type and will therefore be deviating from my usual style which leans towards dangerous looking women in skin tight latex clothing

Srsly? Do you live in NYC or what?
