Did that happen on the first round you fired ?
I have never had a baffle strike either. And, (again with the obvious) I hope I never do. |

None of my cans have had strikes either. This poor guy had some troubles. Probably shot too much 22LR before this...

YHM Wraith 9mm. Just barely nicking. The first 25 of them were bored to .375". After 25 of them, YHM switched to .400". Mine was the 13th off the line, so mine was .375. I sent it to YHM and they bored it out to .400 and I have had no problems since.

That sucks!!! I can't get a good pic of mine. It's a Gemtech Trinity, the 3 lug mount spring stuck and the bullet barely grazed a couple of baffles in the middle and then hit the end cap just enough to knock off the finish. My dealer gave me a new mount and I didn't bother sending the can back. It's probably too late now. I'll keep trying for a pic, but it's not that bad anyway.

YHM .223 Suppressor on a Vector Arms 33K after 20 rounds. I special ordered it from Vector with 1/2x28 threads and their thread job was the culprit (this was agreed upon by both Vector and YHM). I have been waiting to get the gun and the can back for about 4 months now.

Maybe I have never experienced a strike because after I mount the silencer I take the time to inspect the alignment before I pull the trigger.

I could not do an apples to apples. First range trip was at a 25 yard confined indoor range. After it was fixed I went to the wide open 50 yard indoor NRA range. I also had a 16" barrel the first trip and a 10.25" barrel the second(SBR was approved while the Wraith was being fixed) It is quiet as a mouse though. Dead quiet. At the NRA range I hear clunk clunk at the rifle, and impact down range. I think it rivals my SWR Warlock 22lr suppressor in sound. I am heading to the range tomorrow and will do a side by side sound compare. |

I had two barrels threaded by the best in the business without relief cuts. They didn't fully seat the can and caused copper streaks on the endcap. I was very lucky. You must sight down the bore from the breech to be completely safe when checking for alignment. I had one bad A2 Flash hider that caused a misalignment. Only sighting down the bore would have found this. Again, very lucky. It is worth the postage to send your barrel to the can manufacturer for their blessing. That still doesn't guarantee it will be right, but it puts the liability totally on them. Your stomach will do flips when you trigger off a round and hear it zinging (tumbling) down range. |

Between my 10 cans and my dealers 100+ cans that have been sold, I've only seen or heard about 1 strike....and it was just a graze that never happened again.
 Of course, most of them are AAC...

I don't have any handy. I'll see if I can dig up the photos of the suppressor we had for repair recently. It was an SOS-45 stolen in a residential burglary and as the cops were chasing the suspect down the road he tossed the host HK USP Tactical and can out the car window. It went skipping down the pavement. The can looked like a dog had got ahold of it and chewed the crap out of it. I'm also still waiting on the X-Ray pics from one of our customer's that had his dog EAT one of his TRINITY mounts. I told him if he can get me the X-Ray photo that he can have the replacement mount for free.

Thanks Owen, I might take you up on that. I don't have the bad mount and I don't know what my dealer did with it. It is annoying to have even a slightly messed up can after spending so much time and money on it.

I want to get a can for a 300 whisper whats the deal on avoiding baffle strikes? Most cans wont warrant for subsonic. What cans are made for the 300 whisper??

I got my barrel and can hot enough one day to get an endcap strike. Just a tiny little graze, and looks like only one. It was on an M4-barreled upper mounted to a registered reciever. So, naturally, the round count was high in a short period of time. That's the tricky thing about .223. You can only get it so hot before the lead in the bullets starts to melt. Then you get all sorts of problems inside your can.
