Illinois honchos are at it again.  Fake FOID Cards?  Sting?  Sounds like entrapment to me.  Likely to target interstate sales as well.

ASSOCIATED PRESS STORY:

State receives $800,000 grant to enforce gun laws

Illinois will use an $800,000 federal grant to beef up enforcement of
the state's gun laws, Attorney General Jim Ryan said Monday.

The U.S. Department of Justice awarded the state the two-year grant last
month. The money will go toward hiring new prosecutors and investigators
to track violations of weapons laws.

"How do criminals get guns? They get them through illegal means," said
U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, who joined Ryan at a news conference
to announce the grant. "What we're trying to do is put some money in the
system so we can enforce the laws."

The grant aims to prosecute illegal gun sales on the Internet and at gun
shows, as well as through the use of false firearm identification cards
and "straw purchasers," or people with clean records who buy guns to
pass along to criminals.

Ryan said his office plans to expand undercover investigations of gun
shows and keep a closer eye on Internet gun sales. Investigators will
check gun shop records against arrest records to identify shops that
routinely sell guns later used in crimes, he said.

The attorney general said his office also will use grant money to
prosecute felons who apply for firearm ID cards or use fake cards to buy
guns.
