I heard something at the Gun Show today at a gun show today at the stark county firgrounds, HK is coming out with an "eviler" version of the SL8-1 for the us that is more G-36esque that takes AR mags aparently called the SL8-4??? Can this possibly be true??

The SL8-4 has been available here for long, it differs from the SL8(not the SL8-1 sold in the US) that it has a black stock and a short Weaver rail.

It doesn´t accept AR mags though.

I've heard that there is some "conversion" possible to a standard SL-8 to force it to take AR mags - but it is apparently not recommended since it cuts the receiver itself.

Perhaps someone is retrofitting SL-8's in this way and selling them as SL8-4???

I don't actually know anything - jsut repeating what I had heard.

If what you are describing is a real HK from the factory, that would be very cool.

Just did some checking on the HKpro boards, aparently it does exist. It is from the factory, and takes some sort of Hi-cap, if not AR I'm not sure which. Could this be a nation specific gun like the SL8-1 is to the US? Does anyone know anything about it?

Yeah, there is the conversion done by SW ( no comment) and eventualy one from Cav Arms, but what I am talking about is from the factory.

The SL8-4 is simply a black SL8-1, with short rail and G36 handguard.

Brouhaha, it is like the SL8, not the SL8-1 you guys have. The difference is that the SL8 can accept high capacity maganizes, the SL8-1 doesnt

Here is the SL8

and here is the SL8-1

Wow...
ONLY the SL8-1 is available in the USA (NO SL8s, NO SL8-4s).
You can visit my website, if you like, and find out about the Blackout Treatment AND the Hi-Cap conversion for the SL8-1 aviailable ONLY in USA.  There is a FAQ AND Review of the SW Hi-Cap conversion there, as well.
My site is located at:

Here is a pic of MY HI-CAP SL8-1:

I haven't seen any black SL-8's in civilian hands in Germany - just the more p.c. light gray version. Also, I imagine that AR magazines can be modified to work in the SL-8. AR magazines can be modified for certain for use in the 5.56mm SL-6 (HK-93). I've seen it done.

I don't think the HK93/AR scenario was a magazine modification.. Seems to me it was a magwell insert "kind of" situation.

Unless he's thinking of the HK G41, which is essentially a HK93 (or 33, for that matter) with a forward assist that takes AR mags.
