I have read, heard and followed up on the issues of the length and twist ratios that were affecting the accuracy and frangibility of the different bullet weights of the 5.56mm. Is there an analogous situation with the 7.62x51mm?
I have a new AR10 A4 Carbine, 16"bbl with a 1 in 12" twist. Is there a 'best' bullet weight for general shooting. I am of the 'biggest and fastest' school of thought when applied to terminal ballistics. What weight will give the best accuracy from my weapon?

Do not go quietly into that good night...

It depends. My Remy 700 VS with a 1/12" barrel likes 168, 175 and 190 SMK's. Many of the Palma shooters like a faster twist to stabilize the 155 Sierra's mandated by the course of fire.  Generally heavier bullets retain energy and buck the wind better at longer ranges. As all barrels are a little bit different, the only way to tell for sure is try the different loads in YOUR rifle.
Good shooting,
Path27 out.

I have a ruger 77 mkII .308 target rifle with a 1/10" twist and boy, it loves 180 gr sp's. It shoots .5 moa with cheap hunting ammo. I'll have to try some heavier bullets next time I pick up componets.
