Last night I took my pre ban Oly CAR-15 Commando to the range. I bought it about two years ago and this is my first test drive. Call me crazy, but the range had a Colt 1911 SS Commander from the Colt Custom Shop for sale at $800.00 that I was willing to make an even trade for. My Oly is in about 95% condition (collapsable stock, long flash hider) which I paid $1100.00 for. In addition, I have added an ACOG Reflex II (an additional $350.00) to boot.

The dealer took a look at my rifle with his ever so critical eye and told me that he'd make the trade, but I'd have to kick in an extra 100 bucks! All of a sudden I came to my senses and told him NO THANKS!

What's the deal with gun stores giving you 20 cents on the dollar for a trade?

Hey, I got an idea. I will give you 800 bucks so you can buy that Colt, PLUS 100, just so you can buy ammo. I wouldnt mind a 900 dollar pre-ban... heh

well what do you expect? All I have is a Beretta 92FS and a Ruger 10/22. I am gun-deprived!!!

See, my point is, now that you have the money for that 1911, you could go back to the store and buy it!!!

The guy probably figured if you are nuts enough to straight up trade the rifle w/ the reflex sight, you probably don't know the value of the rifle. So why not ask for another $100 from you? Thank goodness you came to your senses. Where you seriously considering the trade?

For what its worth, I had a pair of pre-ban Olympic AR's for sale two weeks ago for $900 each, and didn't even get a single inquiry. Ended up just selling off the lowers seperately.

I will tell you guys, you can get a much better deal buying complete pre-ban guns, then to buy the lowers seperately.

AFARR - Appreciate the offer, but as I said, I came to my senses!

slt223 - I was getting frustrated trying to get the Reflex sighted in. My frustration got the best of me and that Colt was looking pretty good!

That's like the dealer who told me the other day that pre-ban Colt Sporters are only worth about $500-600..... uh, yeah.

I wouldnt of made that deal either, not even with the extra 100 dollars. I cant imagine he wanted to make money off of you.

Hey man, I know the feeling. I got raped on trading my Glock 30 for my new BM AR15. Oh well, glad I wasn't at all disappointed in the AR.
