Ok...I have continued to educate myself as much as possible on all the different manufactures, etc. of AR-15/M-16 components. I like everyones opinion on the following please....

What barrel brand and twist would be considered the best for building a weapon whose primary function is combat scenarios using semi-auto fire, 55-62gr. ammo, often near the ocean, with ops ranging from CQB to 300 to 400 meter targets...? Chrome lined? Chrome moly? Stainless? etc...

Thanks!

I would go with what Kevin said.

Then again, I would go with what Troy said.

Whatever you do, get a BUSHMASTER !!

I agree with LACop about his assessment of what Troy and Kevin said.

Interesting feedback...Everybody is a Bushy fan. Well.....I do own a couple myself, 1 pre, 1 post. The thing is I have corresponded with some very knowledgeable combat specialists who deal with military and LE and they have all said that for hard, "real world" use the Bushmaster barrels are, to quote ones' exact words "BM bbl's are non-mil-spec junk that have constant problems". I don't want to open Pandora's box here....just found it interesting....

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Bushmaster barrels have a 1:9 twist vs the 1:7 twist so they are not truely "mil-spec".  If you're using the 55-62 grn round, that is a mute point (actually probably a plus for Bushmaster).

Other then that, what are the problems these "combat specialists" have with those barrels produced by Bushmaster.  I don't want to get into a flame war here, so lets keep it on a pro level.

The quote you used says nothing as to the reasoning behind the attitude, or the credibility of the person who said it.

Inquiring minds want to know...

Ahh....I better let this post go...LOL..! Lets just say that the quote is from a well know individual and leave it at that...:) It was in reference to a question that I asked. and only given because I asked, as far as overall chrome lined barrel specs & quality. The situations that these weapons were being tested in were heavy fire scenarios in both full and semi-auto. As far as the twists..both 1x7 and 1x9 were discussed. The topic had more to do with manufacturing tolerances, ETC. I own both Colt and Bushy so....really no biggy to me.

"Keep the spinning side up"...

What do I recommend for his stated conditions?  How about a sharp dose of reality?

Unless you are firmly entrenched in Fantasyland, a stock, standard Bushmaster government profile or HBAR in 1/9 will do for the average shooter for target or practical rifle events out to 400 meters.  For 300 and under, a Bushmaster 16 inch HBAR should do nicely.
