I'm considering on purchasing my first AR-15 and would like to know your sincere opinion if its really worth to spend $150 more on the Bushmaster equivalent of Rock River Arms?

The Bushmasters, excepting the DCM rifles, have chrome lined bores and chambers. RRA rifles do not. Chrome lining generally adds around $100 or so to the price of a field duty barrel.

A while back, Bushmaster was charging $50 extra for chromed-line BBL.

with regular maintanance, what would you say is the life of a non-chrome lined barrel?

I'm about to purchase an AR15, and I also am interested in the barrel issue of it.  I know there are some places out there that will sell you RRA uppers with bushmaster barrels, may be the way to go...

I own both.  I prefer my LEGP RRA M4gery, but my bushy is also a solid weapon.  You can't go wrong with either.

MY RRA LEGP flattop is w/in spec.

My Leupold Mark IV rings don't fit my Bushmaster flattop, which is a little narrower than the RRA.

Apparantly the Picitinny spec was updated, but all the ring manufacturers haven't switched over yet.

I did measure my LEGP (#27) to be 0.835 wide, and my Bushmaster to be 0.832.

The Picatinny Rail Specification, Rev A, calls for 0.835-0.005.  That's 0.835 to 0.830.

Slight off topic swerve:
Is my Wilson bbl. chromelined or no?
Bull, stainless.

I called Bushmaster/Quality Parts Co. a few years ago, and they said that unchromed barrels have a life somewhere around 10,000 rounds.  I asked him how do you know a barrel is worn out, and the reply was that your shot group will open up a lot.  Of course the follow-up question was how long does a chrome-lined barrel last, and he says that they have a M16 with a chromed-lined barrel that has more than 20,000 rounds thru it and it still shooting very accurately.

For me personally, I would keep it 100% RR or Bushmaster etc, because if you have a problem, you will have a clear who is responsible.

NO...not worth the money.  To be honest, if the RRA and Bushy cost IDENTICAL...I'd still go with RRA.

I concur with the earlier statements that I'd pay MORE for a NON-chrome lined barrel...better accuracy.  How many people on this forum are out in the jungle for long periods of time and need a chromed bore?  My guess is less than .001%.

Longer life?  On paper, yes the chrome lasts longer.  But if you take care of a rifle, the barrel will last your lifetime (unless you're shooting 10,000 rounds a year at a fast cyclical rate...in which case you probably have enough money to buy a new barrel or gun every year too!!!).

My $0.02.  Now the difference is only $149.98.

If its stainless its not chrome lined.  Then again Wilson doesn't offer any chrome lined barrels as far as I know.

BTW, just to be clear, I am not dissing RRA, simply pointing out that they, like many American manufacturers of AR15 rifles and parts primarily for the civilian market, have for cost reasons, eliminated a integral part of the rifle's design orginal design for relibility and longetivity under heavy use and poor conditions.

Not to flame or bitch at you Jugger, but the "original" design did not include a chrome lined bore.

RIGHT!  And that part of the reason why the gun had failures.

(the other parts being lack of a cleaning kit/procedure and a change in the powder in the ammo)
