Try a used Rem 870 and send it VANG for this redo special - saves you alot of $$ and man you get your baby back all done up like Carmen Electra back from the Plastic Surgeons office  for the first time!

Waverunner, Check out Vangcomp their shotguns use a combination of backboring and porting to greatly reduce recoil. Their shotguns are about the same as the Wilson guns. Vangcomp will also do conversions on a costumers gun. I have had several LEO's students that use the Vangcomp,Scattergun Tech and Benelli guns. I prefer the Vangcomp hands down. The only disadvantage is the porting is a little noisy. But the porting is optional. Vangcomp does both the 870 and the 11-87. If you cant find enough information on the net e-mail me and I will send you some articles I have collected.

Scattergun products are definitely nice,

but man are they proud of them! $$'s.  I picked up a used Rem 870 that was in good shape, had my local Gunsmith add a ghost ring & night sight, added the 2 shot extension & viola I have a combat shotgun for under $500.

Best of luck with your decision!

I agree that Vang Comp is top drawer. And his prices are reasonable. The MMC ghost ring sights are a tad expensive but you get what you pay for.

Waverunner,

I had wilson combat upgrade my 870 magnum express and I am very pleased.  I added a 2 shot extension, side saddle, and sure-fire.  My shotgun is now one mean SOB.

Wilson customer service is top notch too.

Like everything else with Bill Wilson's name on it, they're overpriced.  Equivalent or better work is available elsewhere for less money.

You'll all be shocked to hear I just ordered the Scattergun Technologies/Wilson K9 with OD Green Armor-Tuff coating.  It's based on the Remington 11-87

Expensive? Hell Freakin Yeah!(even with the "discounted" LEO pricing!) but I believe you get what you pay for...and I really wanted one

Oh no, what else do you have to sell?

I have been drooling over the Scattergun Tech Border Patrol model for about a year.  Instead of buying their model I picked up a Rem 870 and ordered lots of the accessories from Wilson Combat and will put them on myself.

So Ray, when do I get to try it out?  Dude you better slow down soon because you are going to run out of either money or space, whichever comes first......

Run out of space? He'll just sleep next to the shotgun. He'll just have to get rid of his girl first, but he's got his priorities straight.

She's gonna love him. "Sorry hon, no dinner-and-a-movie for a year. I gotta pay for my weapons cache."

Heck, as long as he's willing to part with "toy's" he no longer wants, he'll never run out of either space or money.  Me on the otherhand...

The 11-87 is a great gun waverunner. It is a lot more reliable with light loads like the Federal tactical round than the Bennelli. The only problem I have seen on them is the gas o-ring gets hot and gets hard and gives you problems. Keep it changed before it gets hard and you will have very few problems.

Maybe so, but I don't think the prices changed that much when Bill Wilson bought Scattergun Technologies.  They were always rather pricy, and from what I see, are no more expensive than the VANG offerings.

I haven't looked a the catalog lately, but I think Wilson just sells new guns, now and don't offer the option of having a gun reworked.

That was the old ST's best deal.  You could take a beater 870 from a gunshow and they'd cut it down to 18", parkerize it and add all the goodies to make it a functional defensive shotgun.

Me being a dog guy, I got the K9 (HEhe)model form SGT before they sold out to Wilson.
It's everything a shotgun should be. Try one or come shoot mine.

Umm, all the Benellis i have seen work at least with 36g normal hunting loads, some work after a while with 24g skeet and trap loads.

And a Benelli can be configured to shoot 24g skeet and trap loads just by shortening the spring inside the buttstock, work´s like a charm.

I bought My 870 for about $209...
added the side saddle and extended mag tube.
Bought the Speedfeed stock after the factory wood cracked.
With WILSON, you are paying extra for a fancy name.

Tuukka I am not referring to a trap and skeet gun. I am referring to a tactical duty shotgun that may be loaded with a heavy slug round and buckshot. No time to change springs or settings. I would have to agree with you about a trap or skeet gun and go with the Bennelli over any other gun even a Browning over and under. At this time there is a bulletin circulating in the law-enforcement community about the bennelli failure to cycle the Federal Tactical round. Which is a round designed to reduce recoil and is used quite a bit in law-enforcement. I have seen this happen twice in the Bennelli but not yet in an 11-87. Waverunner if you keep it lubed when it is hot and hard you will keep her happy, I I mean shooting good- oh my. I am glad we don't discuss the effectives of the deeply penetrating slug round fired rapidly from this type of gun.
