I recently acquired an experimental Colt 1911A1 machine pistol that Colt was asked to design around WWII. Per my understanding, this was the only one made in 45. I believe they also made an experimental version in 38 super. Anyway, I am trying to get records from Colt on its history but I thought I would share it with you guys. I have the limited history as I know it and some pictures posted here: http://blog.princelaw.com/2009/8/5/experimental-colt-1911a1-machine-pistol. Right now, I am having it gone over to make sure everything is in proper order and once I get it back, I am going to post some of my own pictures.

Wow! Congrats on a rare find.
Do you plan on shooting it at least once? If so, a vid is in order. Pics of the innards would be interesting also. |

That's bad ass. Def need some more photos of it, and a video if you shoot it. How did you come by it?

Wow. Where exactly did they put the fire mode selector on the right side? I can't find it. |
|
I can tell you that a full auto 10mm Delta Elite can empty a 9rd magazine so fast that there is no way to get your trigger finger off of the trigger before the slide is locked back. Guess I got the sear spring a little too light with that previous adjustment.

|
Kinda a waste of a design but congrats on a rare piece of history
|
|
some guys get all the cool ones..Hope you can get some good history for that. Always love seeing the rare ones..

Now that is just bad-ass! If I am not mistaken John Dillinger had a 1911 modified to fire full-auto as well. Congratulations on your acquisition of a rare piece of history. http://blog.princelaw.com/assets/2009/8/5/EJB1-S-F2-H.jpg http://blog.princelaw.com/assets/2009/8/5/EJB1-S-F1-H.jpg How in the world would you hold that thing AND pull the trigger? It would definitely be awkward. |
|
There is no selector on it. The sear is a split design and depending how you pull the trigger, like an Aug, depends on whether you get a single shot or full auto. I do plan to shoot it and will try to get a vid once I get it back from everything being gone over. I also own the transferable titanium Beretta 93r. I am addicted to machine pistols.

In Bechtelsville (near Boyertown), which is basically in the middle of a triangle from Allentown to Reading to Pottstown.

I've always had an open door policy with regards to my NFA toys. Anyone with ammo can come and play.

Um here's an offer: I'll bring ammo, Dam brings camera, you bring guns.

Well, I just learned of a full auto outdoor range in Gap PA (near Exton). I am going to check it out on Saturday (since the ONLY full auto outdoor range I have found was Oley and that is a real crappy range and limited to like 15 yards). Also, right now my 1911 is being gone over, but I have the rest of my toys available anytime.
|
|
I'm interested in the FA range tell me how you like it. I'm a little booked until mid september. But we should definitely do this.

I am going to check out an outdoor range in Gap PA tomorrow, which apparently allows full auto. The only outdoor range that I know of that allows full auto in PA is a little crappy range in Oley. Anyway, if the range in Gap pans out, maybe one weekend we can meet up?

But wow, that must have cost $50k or more... And here I am trying to justify spending $12k on a transferable AK. |

I'll bring some ammo for 93R too. If the Gap range doesn't pan out, Mt Joy sportsmen also allows, with supervision, NFA items. You have to call ahead for a board member to close the range for your use.
Edited to add: I've wanted one of those since I was ten. |

Since that 93r is a clone(albeit wickider by far than the original) and not a factory gun, is it 3rd burst or real rock'n'roll? Other details plz, titanium 93 weight vs factory, etc etc. SUPER nice guns btw

I don't mind sharing that I originally bought it for $25,000 and was offered $120,000 for it last year. While it does have the tri-burst mechanism, the purpose of making it out of titanium was so that the mechanism can be removed (the mechanism resides under the right grip), allowing it to fire in full auto, without the fear of the frame bending. Boatman and Bixler were concerned that full auto fire out of the aluminum frame would cause it to bend or malform.

I've got a couple boxes of ammo and my camera. |

Well, I checked out the range in Gap PA and although I became a member, the board is considering banning full auto (ugh), but I am hoping to persuade them otherwise. Anyway, someone suggested a range in Mt. Penn? Do you have an address so I can see how far it is? If it isn't too bad and you can bring guests, I am down. I would be happy to let anyone who is interested and can come to shoot the 93R. I would include the Colt, but I don't yet have it back. As for when I bought the 93R, I don't actually remember the exact year and because of an email server crash, the dates on my emails aren't correct. But, I believe it was in 04 or 05.

I've never wanted to be near Pennsylvania... until now!
That is sweet! |

Very nice acquisition. I've always been intrigued by experimental guns like yours. That exact pistol (sans the butt stock and mag) is pictured on page 288 of Nelson & Musgrave's: The World's Machine Pistols and Submachine Guns Vol IIa. http://i25.tinypic.com/2z7k84p.jpg Wow the first rail on a 1911. I love to see how the VG comes off and on. |
