I think it would be pretty interesting to hear about people's longest shots with a .22 because even though a .22 bullet can go for a mile i've never really heard of shots over 100, 200yards with them. Lets see what you guy's have done.

My 10/22 is sited for 50yards and MkII is sited for 25yards. No need for me personally to go beyond that.

I once shot a "fresh" red apple with my 10/22 "30" times at a "100 yards"

me and a buddy shot some chicken shilouettes at the local range at 200 yards to see if it could be done, IIRC the holdover was something like 15 feet or so, but we managed to hit about 20% of the time

You have peaked my curiosity. Saturday, I will take my 10/22 to the 200 yard range as oppossed to the traditional 100 yarder and give you a damage report.

I killed a crow once at about 80 yards or so. It was about 30 years ago and done one morning at breakfast from the dining room. With the slider open enough to get the muzzle outside. Damn crows had been picking on my horse and running him off from his feed unless I stood there till he finished. Hung the dead crow in the tree above where I feed my horse. Crows stayed far away after that. It might have been a bit farther but 80 yards seems to be about right IIRC. I do remember my Dad saying it was a very good shot and that he seemed surprised that I'd made it.

300 yards. we were setting on a hill over looking a huge dry lake bed and set out a bunch of bottles and started cutting them down. You had to aim way high shoot then wait about three seconds for the bullet to hit. it was a shitload of fun, did this about 8 years ago.

If you have alot of land as far as it can. Shot some at a friends farm with 10/22's off a hill into a fresh plowed field, we could get off a hole 10 round mag than wait a second and watch them all hit .

I was shooting a 10/22 with a 3-9X36 scope at a 55 gal. drum lid and at 200 yds. after finding the holdover I could whack it every shot. With the same rifle I was shooting at an IPSC metric target at 350 yds. I would line up the cross hairs and raise them up till I could just see the head at the bottom of the vertical reticule. Out of 10 shots I put 3 into the target. I won $20 on that target.

I can keep a silver dollar size group @ 100 yards with my rem 597. All its got is a cheap 3x9 scope. Need to get a bipod soon tho. I shoot pretty much (every day) so I'd say I could kill a bird from 5-100 yards no prob.

My brother shot a squirrel with a CB at around 200. I have it on video, it was the best shot I have ever seen. It was a head shot (it was definately luck!)

prarie chicken off of a barn roof at 150 yds. not entirely legal, but given a fair chance anyway so i didn't feel too bad about it. spread its wings and did a double back flip before hitting the ground.

61 yards at a starling. Entered its gut and blew off one of its legs. The leg landed 6 feet behind it. I was using CCI mini-mag HP's.

Friend of mine and I were shooting at a bare dirt spot in a field one day just out of curiousity. Estimated range was about 300 yds. and I'm a fair estimator of range. In order to hit it I had to raise the entire front sight base to sit on top of the rear sight. A .22 drops a LOT at that distance.

At the 300 yard range I think I kept my shots on the silhouette. It took a while to dial in the scope though.

Sounds like the exact same thing I did last winter/spring. I was sitting here in the dining room on the computer and saw a crow picking around in the field at around 75 yards. I retrieved my suppressed 77/22, and slid open the sliding door. I braced the rifle off the side of the doorway, adjusted my aim, and sent a CCI subsonic in his direction. The sound of the bullet striking the crow was louder than the muzzle signature. He dropped without even flapping a wing.

I shot a running quail in the neck at about 110-115 yards with a Marlin model 60. I then cleaned it, rubbed some Coke on it and cooked it on an upside down coffee can. It was delicious.

I spent an afternoon shooting crows at ranges of up to 150 yds w/ a single shot bolt action and
iron sights. This was at my cousins house and I was riding around on his lawnmower taking shots
as I sighted the crows (which had chased off all the doves and rabbits). My score was 16 for 16.
Two of the crows were shot in mid flight.

I shot a can on top of a 2x2 at almost 300 yds but that was w/ a scope and it took over 20 attempts to hit it.

270+yds at a fig12 target in a window of a building. It took about 10 rounds of tracer with spotters to hit it the first time, but after that I knew which cloud to aim for and it went down almost every time.
Great fun.

I'll find out today, going to the range to sight in my cheapo scope on mine. Just got it Friday morning and have only just played around not really aiming at anything except a general area on a small sand pile.

35-37degrees is me think the sweet angle for the longest shot possible. I've shot out to 300 at ground squirrels but that was because I was at an elevated position. didn't hit anything but dirt. the ammo I was using was just junk. you can see the bullet fly in circles as it goes out.

Ok, there is a mathmatical limit here. The longest range angel is 45 degrees.

I think from what I remember was somewhere between 35-37 degrees. 45 would be a bit too steep and the bullets would fall short. I read the test about this awhile back. the test was to see if a .22lr was able to reach 1.5miles. it was shot somewhere out in the plains into a still pond and from what the students discovered was that the .22lr was actually able to hit the 1.5mile mark but it depends on the angle being shot so they tried/tested and found the sweet angle(I can't recall exactly what) but I remembered that it was between 35-37degrees. it would seem that the 45degree would be the best but they discovered that the round would fall short of 1.5 miles because of the higher arc. too much arc isn't good when trying to get distance. if you've ever played paintball you'd get a feeling to how shooting arcs would affect the max distance.

180 yards, on a dove with a Rommy .22 trainer, open sighted useng the flip up sights held pver about a foot-n-half.

That little sky rat just rooooled off that barn roof, dead as a door nail.

210 yards. Shot a small bird out of the top of an alder tree. Would have never believed it except a buddy and I found it at the base of the tree. Luckiest shot I have ever made and hasn't been repeated since!!!

I shoot refularly out to 1000 yards, but I was Delta and was trained how by IDF snipers so that I could be a silent predator when I was in Iraq............

Hell I coudl not keep typing that out and keep a straight face

I have made lucky shots outto 200 meters with a .22, usually 100 meters or less for silhouette. Plinking fun is rarely over 75 Meters unless I am just being silly

My best so far was 124 yards on a groundhog, one shot through the neck with Remington Subsonic.
It was a tough shot because it was under the fiberglass funnel of one of our Christmas tree balers.

I went prairie dog hunting with some friends over the summer and I was using the farmers .22, coming with in feet of them probably at 120-140 yards with just iron sights.
