SGB is the best! He came to the Gun Gallery in Jax, FL today, and changed out all the MIM parts (with the exception of the safety) on my Kimber Warrior. I now have a new sear, disconnector, hammer, slide stop, firing pin stop, and barrel bushing, all Ed Brown Hardcore parts. I wanted to replace the existing safety (at SGB's suggestion) with the King Extended safety, but wasn't able to get it in time for today's visit.
Steve also adjusted the trigger pull to just a hair under 4 lbs. I loved the Warrior before, but now, after these changes, I think I absolutely ADORE it. It shoots great, feels great, and looks great. In addition, I'm thinking of changing the trigger for a black one. A few weeks ago, New-arguy got me the tan gunner's grips with the beveled edge and put them on. Thank you, Steve! |

Nice look weapon argirl. so what did you do for SGB
ETA never mind |
Thanks for all the work Steve!!! Maybe one day when my Desert Warrior comes in you can do the same to mine!
Why not get an Ed Brown for $1800 from Sporting Arms and put a Dawson rail on it
Done Deal |
Those modifications resolve almost all of my complaints about Kimbers.
Now that thing needs some golfballs, front and back, and a lanyard loop. And some Heinies. Or at least open up the notch on the rear Novak. You wouldn't believe the difference that makes! |
Thanks also to SGB, who fixed my Pro Carry's external extractor problem, despite his distaste for the external extractor. Next time you're in Jax, I'll ask NewARGirl to bake you a cake!
Nice rig!
Aside from changing out the MIM parts, it's amazing what a little bit of tuning will do to an already nice 1911! |
That's a done deal, too! I'll bake whatever cake Steve wants. And as for you, Otto, better decide what kind of birthday cake you want......the day is fast approaching! |
Maybe because that would be a $1950 or so gun and this gun was significantly less than that (less than $1200 with all the parts). Is that a good reason? Working at a gun store doesnt pay much, but it does have "some" benefits. |
Nice work SGB. Maybe I could trouble you to do a little trigger work on my Colt Commander? It was good to meet you face to face.
It was good to meet you as well Nate, great Yost Colt you have I'll give Neil a heads up when I'm comming over again. Feel free to bring the Commander along on my next visit and I'll be happy to see what I can do. |
Good reason. I was thinking that if you took a $1000 Warrior, sent it to a reputable gunsmith, and paid labor plus Ed Brown parts, you would be into it for about $2000. For that price, might as well go with the Ed Brown from the start. But then, I don't work in a gun store Anyway, VERY NICE PISTOL FOR UNDER $1200. |

Congrats!!!
Your 1911 was in good hands with SGB doing the work on it!!!!! |
Got some Brownells parts #'s for some of us that would like to hook up our Kimber
Yes, I'll try to get that information for you by this evening. |
For a big, sorta ugly guy, SGB really is a softie...just don't let everyone know that!
Kinda the pot calling the kettle black ain't it? |
These are the parts SGB told us to get and that he graciously installed in the gun:
Part # 087-000-009 or 087-000-010 Ed Brown HardCore Hammer. We got the blued one. Part # 087-815-001 or 087-815-101 Ed Brown HardCore Slide Stop. We got the blue one. Part # 087-812-000 Ed Brown Match Sear Part # 087-809-100 or 087-809-101 Ed Brown HardCore Firing Pin Stop We got the blue one. Part # 087-811-000 Ed Brown Match Disconnector Part # 087-046-832 Ed Brown Solid Barrel Bushing There's several on the page, we got the part number listed. SGB also suggested the Kings ambi safety. Brownells tells me they discontinued that item. We'll probably get one elsewhere. |

Hey SGB (or anyone else who may know), will all these parts work on a Series 80, like a TLE?
What was the damage on all those bits? |
Yup |
The parts, without a dealer discount, would run you about $160 or so. With a discount, right about $100 or so.
Thanks for the response SGB, I didnt know if that disconnector or FPS worked with both series. |
Thanks for the shopping list...payday should be interesting around here.
I just tried to detail strip a friend's Warrior -
What the fuck is up with that hammer pin? Someone help!! |
Did you work around SGB's nap time and bring the required geritol spritzers ??
Wish they made the Warrior without the rail... Very nice gun.
SGB rules! He is the 1911 guru! He sat in a corner of the shop and quietly worked his magic on my Warrior and Otto's Pro-Carry. He conducted himself admirably the whole time - excellent manners - a perfect gentleman. I didn't realize we were interfering with his nap time! He worked for an hour or more with no refreshment except for a coke and a slice of black russian cake. |

[edit 2] |
yeah, 25th anniv with some gunner grips and Novak's... BAM! There you go.
Damnit... ya I know. I think I tried to block that out though. |
We old guys from Southwest Michigan are just cool like that |
Now to get some parts for my 25th |
Whoa....the hammer pin is flanged on purpose?? that's fucked up. So how the hell am I supposed to get the hammer pin out? I got the safety out no problem. |
Very nice pistol. I think a black trigger on that would be kick ass.
Thx for sharing. ^_^_^ |
Ed Brown Slide Stop, Ed Brown Firing Pin Stop, Ed Brown Barrel Bushing on order!
I'm sure that you'll be as happy with yours as I am with mine. |
Parts arrived and went in no problem...didn't get the sear, disconnector, or hammer though - just don't have the desire to dissassemble it that far!
Bring it with on your next trip south......... I know someone can do it for ya |
