Try Ajax Shooter Supply.  They are on the web, Google them.  They have a large selection of grips and I've had good experience with them in the past.

I think we should flood simonich knives with emails so they will produce gunner grips for the BHP.

Gunner grips I would do, The Ajax stuff doesn't do it for me.

You also might want to check out the Navidrex Micartas.  Brownells has 'em, I have a set on mine.  They're OK.  I had to get those because I was too late getting in on the run of Delrin grips Craig Spegel did a year or so ago.

Grips.... Hogue rubber all the way.  Try Midway. They have a good selection. I just checked....Midway has Hi Power butt pads. They come in packs of five.  I ordered a set for my HP mags.   They are made by Pacmyer.  OEM quality.

HUZZAH!!!!   Maybe someone should post this over on the 1911forum BHP board. (I just did, as well as LTW, Lightfighter, THR, and Steven Camp's forums ) Since the BHP web board shut down, that's the main place all the BHP fans hang out.  I would imagine we could get a bunch of support over there and possibly make this happen.  Mmmmmmmm Gunners on a HP.........

Well,
Mr. Camp just chimed in on his site.  He said that if the fit was right, he's in.  That's a pretty good endorsement to have .  Fingers crossed.

I'd take a pair.  Probably a few of them for my future various hi-powers, especially if they were "thin feeling" like thin 1911 grips.

Are we on the color selection phase yet, or are we still wishing for a miracle?

I dunno if were wishing a miracle, but it shouldnt be that hard getting color choice if they cut them from a solid block of material.

Well,
This is what I heard from Christine.

"Just 1911's for now..."

Now, it's not ALL that bad. At least it said "for now", instead of "No F-in Way". Maybe if we eventually get enough people to make it worth their while...

THEN I got this from a guy over at SH...

"Sadly, two days before we lost Rob, I had a conversation with him about this.
Rob was very enthused about it and promised to talk more when he came home from what would be his last hunting trip."

So in a nutshell, Rob wanted it to happen before he was tragically killed.   Then the gentleman who posted the above also informed me...

"FYI...Christine doesn't make the grips.
The Strider guys have been doing this for her to help her out.
First priority has been to the USMC and now the gun industry. I don't think they're tooling up to do any other grips just yet and doubt if they'd do it for 20 pair.
I'm going to see Mick and Duane in about 2 weeks; I'll talk to them about it in person, then."

I was aware the Christine wasn't actually making the grips, but  I wasn't sure that the gents at Strider knives were.  That's great news.  Hopefully they may be willing to start a run on 'em.  We'll see (keep your fingers crossed).

Rich

Right now we're in the process of sending Christine a good set of grips for her machinist to pattern off of.  Everybody seems to agree with the "slimmer is better" idea, so would a set of spegel grips be a better pattern than the standard grips?  Right now she will probably recieve both, but may or may not want to make grips off of both versions.  What does everyone think?
Link Posted: 8/12/2005 4:41:31 PM EDT
[#27]
Ok,
I have one set of Spegels inbound to me, which I will send to her to provide the outside "contour" of the grip.  I was also going to send the factory grips as well to provide the inside dimensions for the best fit.  I just emailed her that idea to see what she thinks (whether it will be too confusing or not).  Does that sound good to everyone?

I posted on the Hide, but figured I should do so here too.

I'd also be interested in these type of grips for my BHPs. To be more specific, I'd want the less aggressively cut Gunner grips, not the ones which draw blood...  ;)

Haha, mine were rough when  I first got them, but after a little sandpaper they became quite comfortable, didnt even have to really rub to dull them down a bit.

Id love the concept, but unfortunately, in my experience theres A LOT of variation in Hi-Power frame tolerances, even within the same manufacturers.  I just dont know if its feasible unless they go oversize and require fitting.
Link Posted: 8/26/2005 4:19:44 PM EDT
[#32]
Well,
Christine dropped the Spegels off at the programmer today.

The Spegels I sent in have directions for fitting to the frame.  Craig specified that at MOST a couple hundreths may need to be shaved here or there.  If it helps any, that's why I also sent in the factory grips (from my MKIII).

Even if they would go slightly oversize, I don't see why that would be a problem.  I mean, if even Spegel grips may need fitting, why is it so bad that another might?  We all know that sandpaper works on the Gunner Grips anyway.  I don't know how frames vary between HP's (but I am aware there are some differences).  At the least these will be made to fit the MkIII.

Christine emailed me today,
She said the grips will be with the programmer for two weeks.  She also said that she's going to "eat" some of the slack on the programming costs and try to keep the price at $65 (just like the 1911 gunners).
