If you had to purchase a striker fired .45 pistol for "general" use, which one would you choose and why?

I don't own a .45 striker pistol (although would love to have someday...), but I do own a .40 in the XDm and I have nothing to say for it except praise. I have shot 2000 rnds through it and can honestly say not one malfunction (I shoot the cheap stuff along with my reloads). The gun feels great in my hand, although so does a Glock, so do most pistols IMHO. To me, three are three very good pistol striker fire manufacturers: Springfield, Glock, and Smith and Wesson (M&P series) go and check each one out and then pick which one you like best. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Glock 21 or 30. Mine eat anything I feed it.

M&P is what I would get. Why, because my M&P.40 full sized and compact models have never hiccuped. They are highly modifiable with the Apex parts and various manufacturers of night sights. The fit my hand better than any Glock I previously owned. Recoil is subjective but my M&P's recoiled less than my Glocks. The ergonomics are so much better than any other striker fired polymer pistol I've ever shot. S&W's customer service is great. To be fair though so was Glocks. The accuracy is great with the M&P too. If you have fat hands the Glock will sometimes bite you. Never so with the beavertail of the M&P. Both are good pistols but the M&P has the advantage. You should go to a range that rents each type of pistol your interested and shoot them for yourself and then decide.

Glock or S&W M&P I have both like both.  But I would say the one you like the most and fits you best.

I have a Glock 21, Glock 30 and an M&P45. I trust them all and shoot them well.

Fingerbang  a Glock 21sf and a M&P 45, if the decision isn't made by which one fits your hand so much better buy the one with the cheapest extra mags.

Don't forget to look at Kahr.

I was gonna say that but I didn't know if they would get the pass for general use.  I like the CW45, but it is the size of a g19 and not much thinner than one.  I like the smoothness of the trigger pull, hate the reset.

M&P 45 Full Size.  It's very accurate, durable, reliable, and ergonomically pleasing.  There is a decent aftermarket, which will only get better from here, as the M&P line is on the upswing.

Went from a G21 to a G21 SF to an M&P 45 and back to a G21 SF.

I couldn't stand the ergos of the M&P 45...

I bought a M&P 45 earlier this year and couldn't really like it.  The grip was ok and the trigger reset was just horrendous.

Love my G21SF.
