Have to send it in to see what happened. Factory ammo. Shell casing still jammed in it
No injuries. If that had been a polymer gun I'd have lost the hand.
Lasermax was still working after it blew

I would send those pics to the ammo manufacturer too.  That looks like a pretty stout kaboom.

I shoot quite a few different brands of 40, thats why I'd like to know.

I've had a factory squib but no kabooms.

The difference between a squib and a kaboom is just a rack and a click...

I'm guessing the 400+ rounds is not including the one that blew your gun to pieces?

I would definitely be contacting the ammo manufacturer.  As there looks like they may have a bad lot.  Do you still have the box the ammo? They will need some info off of it.  Keep us posted.

Damn. I've never seen a premium defensive ammo kaboom. Looks like part of the case is still in the chamber?

Glad you are ok. Hope you get it sorted out in a timely manner.

Please keep us posted.

Ouchie.  Why does it seem that most of the pistol KB's I've read about are with .40 S&W?

Looks like you had a case head separation.  Did you find the rest of the cartridge?

Glad you're OK.  It looks like the pistol functioned as designed, containing the kaboom enough that you escaped serious injury.  Or did you even get a scratch?

It happens.  I had a primer go off on my progressive press recently.

Not serious:  Man's caliber!

Serious:  The .40SW is a high pressure load.  There is no +P because it is all +P.  This is the way it was designed and what makes it such a great round (that many quickly dismiss without researching).  Weapons in .40SW should have a fully supported chamber and some either don't, or didn't for some time.  G22 is a great example.

That isn't the case here and I'm very curious to hear some updates...

No 9mm in a Barsto 9mm conversion barrel ....
sent the barrel back to Barsto and they said it was the ammo and the barrel was fine

My question is whether the round in question had been used as a carry round?  Did you unload and reload frequently with the same round?

One of the biggest concerns that I have with .40 is if the bullet itself has seated deeper in the case through frequent unloading and reloading.

Glad you weren't hurt!

Before I knew any better, I would actually shoot up my SD ammo that had bullet setback out of my P229 in .40.

I know better now.  Not saying it's good practice or anything, but nothing bad happened.

Last summer/fall I was worried about setback for my 180gr HST's in a 229.  I measured the OAL of my chambered round after every chambering for 2 months.  I didn't see any measurable set back in 23 chamberings over 2 months.  I only did this cause I didn't have a reliable source of HST's at the time.  Now I just shoot my chambered round every time I got to the range and load a new one when done.
