Korean-made G19 mags? (Page 2 of 6)

I bought 5 from Weidners.  Took awhile to get them but I got them today.

I compared them to the real thing.

The mag springs are definately not as strong.  Of course, I like Wolfe xtra power springs.  I would expect to have to replace the springs sooner than factory mags.  Still, they have decent tension.

One of the mags had extra plastic in the inside of the body.  I didn't fire with it but I doubt that it would have worked.  I cleaned it out and it worked fine.

If I didn't have any high cap mags and there was a ban in place, I would carry them without hesitation.  I would install Wolfe springs first before carrying them though.

I prefer to use my carry mags for training to ensure that they function.  If a mag fails to function, I get rid of it.  However, I would use these mage if I was headed to training that required dropping them on the ground and moving around and stepping on them.

Anyway, I'd agree that these are the best aftermarket mags that I've seen.

I would recommend you disasemble them first before using them and check the interior.

Sorry CBR, I was going to reply to this thread a while back but lost track of it.

Yes, G17 and G18 KCI mags are on the way! However I was not told a timeline so I can't even guess as to when we will see them. I just know that G17 & G18 mags are on the way.

What I am reading thus far from numerous individuals indicates the mags are 100% reliable. The only other question that remains in my mind is how they hold up in the long term. But that can be remedied if springs become an issue. That seems to be the only component that might eventually need beefing up.

I admit, I was very skeptical about these mags when they first hit the market. But I am really starting to warm up to them now after hearing so many positive reviews. While I prefer factory mags (or Mec-Gar) when it comes to my carry guns, one has to admit that reliable is reliable, be it factory or otherwise. So far I haven't heard any reports here or on other forums of these mags being responsible for any malfunctions.

So, I think I will lay back a bunch of them. Hell, at those prices, you can get two of them for every new factory mag you can find these days. And if they continue to prove reliable, and if they demonstrate they hold up well over the long haul, I would have no issues in using them beyond range mags. Again, if 100% reliable and if durability is on par with factory Glock mags, then I don't see the problem.

BTW, what are the chances we might see some of these mags in other calibers, like .40 or .45?

I've 10 of them and shot almost 1300rds without any issue.
The best quality mags next to factory.... hands down.

I saw a big box of KCI G17 mags at the fun show here in VA last weekend.  They exist and are here.  I skipped them at $15 each, still getting used to the idea, but they are out.

Sounds like they're on the fast track to be self defense mags?

I guess more time will tell.

I have been thoroughly searching the various gun forums and reading reviews of these mags. Thus far, I have only been able to find one negative review of the mags among the hundreds of reviews that are out there. Some dude (forgive me for not remembering the specific forum) said he had malfunctions from 3 of the 5 mags he bought, something like 6-8 malfunctions in 100 rounds or so. Otherwise, everyone else in the thread in question, as well as all the others I came across had nothing but positive things to say about these mags.

So who knows? I don't think I'd let one negative report overshadow the hundreds of positive ones. After all, we all know how the internet can be. Heck, the guy doing the complaining may have never even laid eyes on a KCI mag, much less put rounds downrange with them. LOL. Or perhaps his weapon was the issue, not the mags. Or maybe the guy just had really crappy luck. I just found the report suspicious, being he was the only guy I've seen thus far claiming functioning problems, and yet he supposedly ends up with 3 that don't work when nobody else has had a single problem? Just doesn't add up.

I'm still not convinced they are worthy of being self defense mags. But I am comfortable enough with them at this point to buy them for range/training mags. In time, if the durability and reliability is there, I'd have no issues using them for carry. I mean 100% reliable is 100% reliable.

I rcvd KCI Glock 17 and 19 magazines from J&G Sales.  They look feel and operate flawlessly.   I fired 200 rds thru the G17 and G19 models with no problems.  Both dropped free empty and full.   For the price and considering the new price for Glock OEM mags the KCI magazines are a bargain.  I have seen them as low as $9.00 dollars.   Let me know what deals you have seen.

Has anyone else used these mags in a 2nd gen. G19?  Or am I the only one that had one not drop free?  To be fair, I only bought one mag to test with...

Ahh see that's what I have, a Gen 2 G19.

I think I need to buy one to try before I jump in the fire and get 5+.

It looks like quite a few of these are now showing up for the G17 as well. The reviews I am finding for those sound just as favorable as the 15 rounders.

Please keep the reviews and experiences with these mags coming. It'll be interesting to see how they hold up over the longer term.

Lone wolf states that 17,18,22, and 23 mags are coming on their home page. Promising prospect me thinks.

Excellent! As the only after market option for quality Glock mags, I think KCI and the distributors who sell them are going to rack up. Good to hear they are going to do Glock .40 mags too.

I have the 6 each of the KCI G17 and G19 and I have shot them 3 times now with no funtioning issues .   They load easier with my Magula loader and the springs definately different from the OEM models but still no problems and for the cost they work well.  When I spoke with J&G sales they stated they expect the G18 mags soon with others to follow.  All I know is that it gives you options to the save your factories for carry use.  I have a Olympic Arms 9mm that takes Glock Mags and they function in it great too.

I bought 10 of the Korean Mags, $12.79 ea after shipping from Copes.

Off the cuff, I would say they are damn good copies.

I mic'ed the spring.  The Korean spring was 0.46 and the Glock spring was 0.51

I am not going to tear apart 10 Glock mags and 10 Korean mags to get a decent testing, just throwing it out there for those who ponder these type of things.

Funny how this thread started and where it is today.

Reminds me of Wolf ammo.

Crap till the 'real deal' starts getting expensive or scarce.

IIRC, it went by the sequence of patents.  The G17 being the 17th Glock patent, the G18 (full-auto) was the 18th, and so on and so forth.

I've got a ton of G17 and G19 factory mags but I'm going to pick up some of the Korean G17 ones anyway.

I'm very excited about the G18 mags.

I tried 4 KCI g17 mags I picked up from CTD.
They are stiff to load. Using Glock mag loader is the only way for me to load the 16th and 17th round into the mag. Oh yes, the Glock mag loader works fine with the KCI mags.

All 4 mags functioned fine. All drop free when empty. There are some excess plastics along some seams, but no big deal. A little knife work will clean them up.

[Last Edit: AJE] [#42]
I took my two 9mm Glocks (1st gen 17 and new 19) to the range with two 15 rd and two 17 rd KCI mags.

Two of my friends and I put 450 rds of Wolf and 100 rds of brass cased reloads the range sells and they ran 100% (did have one weak round of Wolf that failed to cycle the slide in the 19).    I did notice the KCI mags don't seem to function as smoothly with my LULA mag loader, (seemed to catch on something while pushing the round down in the mag), however they loaded up and ran just fine.    The 19 was shot with both 15 and 17 rd mags.

IMO, these mags are good to go, and I'll be happily waiting for them to start importing the G18 mags.

ordered 15 KCI 17 round mags from 44 mag....

initinally depressed about the quality, and all of them were tricky to load. They were "rugh" It was like the follower would bind making it damn near impossible to load. I loaded 5 and took them out the next day. I put a total of 34 rounds through each mag (G34 with blazer) and they all worked they did seem much looser and easier to load the second time around so maby its a break in thing I think they are going to be my range mags for awhile until I know how well they really work
