anyone have a G36?

I just applied for my CPL, and am looking for a good defensive pistol. I have shot 1911s for years, but they have all been tuned for competition. This will be my first "defensive pistol". I want to stick to .45 so I don't have to add another caliber to my collection. I have large hands and am not recoil shy, but am concerned that a pistol this small and light may be tough to control.

What do you all think?

It has a bit more muzzle flip and recoil than the G30. Nothing terrible, it`ll just require some practice. Since your familiar with 1911s, why not look into Paraordnance P-12 or P-12 LDA, perhaps some of the compact Kimbers?

Now now Arbob... I don't want go get into a 1911 vs. Glock argument.

I just think the Glock might be a better choice for me. As a defensive pistol.

No Biggy. I have both. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Just suggesting you give `em both a try. It`s a great reason to go to the range.

I decided to go with the G30 over the G36. For roughly the same money and 1/4" thicker, I figured you get four more rounds when the SHTF.

I too cast my vote for the Glock 30 over the 36 model. The 30 has a much better grip feel for me & the 36 feels like those POS S&W Chief Special semis: like holding a wooden 2x4.

I sold off my Glock 30 after I bought my H&K USP Compact 45acp.

I have all the GLock 45 models and my carry choice is the 36. That tiny bit of diffenrece between the 30 and 36 makes all the difference when carrying all day. The 30 was always like a brick strapped to my side, 2 minutes after holstering the 36, I forget it is there.

YMMV.

Of course it is getting to be winter time here in the great Southern Tier of NY, so the GLock 21 will replace all of them.

I also vote for the Glock 30 over the Glock 36. The extra rounds are worth the extra size and weight.

It'll give one a tad more margin before a reload is necessary if nothing else.
