Hey guys!

Seems kinda wierd posting pics of my 5.45 babies on ar15.com, but whatever! Apologies to those who have already seen these on "that other board" - a proud papa's gotta brag!

Century SAR-2:

And before it went all Darth Vader:

An AK fashion faux pas:

Finally, my Intrac MkII:

Here's mine. It is a Centerfire Systems Romak 992 that has been converted to accept standard capacity mags. It has a Kobra II dot sight on it and I replaced the stock muzzle brake with a actual Romainian one.

2nd pic on the page is my SAR1. I stripped the stock using a citrus based concoction from HomeDepot. Coated the wood with some run-of-them-mill Minwax American Walnut stain.
I used Alumahyde on the metal parts of the weapon and just did the Drummel chop of the trigger job last week. I polished the cut portion w/ a the Dremmel and was test firing in the photo. I am VERY impressed with how the trigger feels now! What a difference!

Thought I'd share the pics w/ everyone...

Thanks for looking!

This is my generic SAR-1 that my wife just gave me for my birthday.  I did some trigger work on it and I like it alot more than I did.  I want to put an AK-74 brake on it.  Anybody got a good source for it?  IM me.

Green, thats not factory wood is it?
Link Posted: 12/29/2002 3:56:33 AM EDT
[#22]
Yup...that is all original Romanian wood [:D]

Stripped off the nasty finish w/ a citrus-based stripper from Home Depot. It comes in a kit for about $10...can't remember the name right off.
Sanded the heck outta the wood, Dremel in some spots and then put an American Walnut finish on it w/ a rag.

It's not the most beautiful job up-close but does look "battle-hardend" to me.

Lancelot,  Global Trades has the US made Ak-47 brakes available that will work on your SAR-1.

http://www.globaltrades.com/

You will need part # A-645 14mm reverse threaded AK-74 brake.  This is a US part and it will need to be permanently attached (welded or silver soldered) to your rifle to make it leagal.

I have this brake on my SAR-1 and it works great!

This past weekend, I was able to take these two home; SAR1 and SAR2. I had already ordered the Red Dot Kobra and the Iluminated PSO scope ahead of time.  The wood on both rifles looks great no sloppy work on them specially the SAR2.

My SAR-1:

I'll be upgrading this with a MOJO rear aperture sight, FSE fire control group, and Red Star Arms hammer/trigger pin retainer plate.

Maybe I'll refinish the wood and metal while I'm at it...

[Edit] Fenian, no offense, but I scaled down your photos to a manageable size [:)]

actually, I got those brakes from Global Trades I *think*...or someplace called Hi-val or something like that.  It was last year sometime.  They're the set screw type; I don't know if K-Var has those.  A buddy of mine wanted one, but by the time he called they were discontinued.  The guy gave us the name of the manufacturer, but directory assistance didn't have a number for them.

AHA...it was AA-OK...just googled and got that...but I'm getting a "page not found" error for their website link.  They may be kaput by now...I think I remember the guy saying they were getting out of the gun parts side of the business.
