Now I feel like a champ because I ordered 2 more kits during the hysteria. Now that this is done I might have to get a few more for long term storage.

I guess that $400 AK-74 kit wasn't such a stupid buy after all....
No point in whining about what we can't control. Our mission now is to get barrels made here, they won't be as cheap but we'll still get 'em. Screw the ATF, we'll just do it the hard way ...
Perhaps our Bulgarian friends will send over some barrel makers and tooling ... |
*sigh* Pick a user, Jeep. |
$400 for an ak-74 kit you can get them for $300 still doesn't seem that wise but they will go up
Well to all the nay sayers I arugued with(none at this board), and most importantly to the ATF...
SUCK MY ASS |
....I dunno....but somehow....I think some Krispy Kreme doughnuts were behind this! ....seriously Thanks for the heads up! |
I'm not mad at all the ppl that called BS I called Import section of BATF and bought some kits just in case. Kind of a rainy day stash just ordered a couple AMD-65 for a couple AOW and pistol builds. So i got some for me my father and a friend
No way man.....this was a kick square in the asshole (with pointed toe boots)..... I guess we will all be moving over to the AR side now.................HA ! KF |
Thanks for the heads-up KF and Troy. It seems Mr. Sellars was right after all.
WTF?!? I mean, what if I buy a parts kit, and assemble it with the required US parts? It has a US receiver, so it is now an existing firearm. Damn, the barrel's missing, I guess I have to "replace/repair" the firearm! Give me the barrel!
Also, what if some of these importers would ship their compliance parts overseas? They could put together non-922 kits together with G2 groups and everything, and bring them back over! That would dodge the issue of 922 all together since it would technically be a made in the USA parts kit at that point. |
Once again the bureaucrats take a huge dump on our rights and the Constitution.
That is just the point the ATF has made on repair/replace.. The GCA68 did not specify R/R.. But the ATF has allowed Replacment part all the time.. Now they are not.. I'm not sure about your other idea.. I'd bet the ATF would say "If it is a US made parts kit, why do you need to import it?" |
Well, the ban doesnt seem to effect "sporter" AKs like the SLR105, WASR, Saiga/Vepr, new sporters coming from Poland, etc....
But, those are probably on borrowed time as well (kits had been since the ATF starting the whole "replacment" use deal). Sure the importers will start more sporters now.. Hopefully we see some new stuff..... Maybe some RPK "Sporters" from Romania or something.. |
I have no doubt that manufacturers will tool up to make AK barrels, it is replacement barrels for more obscure weapons that worries me.
Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit
+1 This will probably make the kits more expensive, but American Ingenuity will prevail....it always does. |
We may even see an increase in front sight bases and gas block importation.
Hopefully it doesn't take as long to make a "good" US AK barrel as it did to make a "good" US AK receiver. I'm getting ready for the "US AK barrels don't need chrome lining because of our superior steel" bit from US barrel makers already. |

Hey, if Akmed and Abdul can build an AK in a dirt floor hut in some third world shithole, and it works, then why can't we!
We ahve some great minds here on this board..........start thinking how we can get around this latest hurdle................................... |
Maybe some of you lawyer types can answer this. How can we have a law for about 16 years, since the sporting clause was written into law in '89, and all of a sudden the BATFE can arbitrarily change it? Some branches of the .gov must hold hearings before they can change their rules. Why not BATFE?
Try 1968 |

This kind of shit only backfires on the gun-grabbers.
10 years ago we had an assault weapons ban, now we have American companies that make American FALs, HK91s and AKs. Ha ha ha ha! 3 years from now we'll have American Drags and Krinks! Worth the money! ATF Suckers! |
In order to mitigate the impact of ATF’s change in import policy and to allow importers a reasonable period to come into compliance, ATF will forgo enforcement of this import restriction for 60 calendar days and allow importers holding existing permits to continue to import barrels and receivers for a period of 60 calendar days.
simple....enforcement latitude. J-walking is against the law, how many people are ever ticketed for it? 'til they "want" to get you for it. |
Thats 20x better then what they did when they banned the import of hicap sporters. Even guns waiting for customs to release them were stuck and were not released. .. Imports lost out. |
So I beleive that importerters would be importing as many parts kits as possible for the next 2 months. IMPORT AWAY GUYS! Ben |
It was never about assault rifles or grabbing guns. It was about protecting domestic manufacturers from $65 SKSs and $200 AKs from China. And now, it is just more of the same. This was easy to see coming. Full page adds for kits in Shotgun News were the tipoff that this was coming to a head. |
Errrrr ......... UUUUmmmmmmmmmm ...............
So don't import parts kits of non-sporting arms !!!! Import the parts kit of something sporting purpose compliant, like a Mak90 kit, but built on a stamped rxvr. That way the parts are import compliant ....... and the evil rifle I build it into will be domestically manufactured and free of and sporting purpose restrictions. I think its the cheapest side step. Broker the guns to some third world shithole, where they are remanufactured. The bayo lug and muzzle device can stay. The stock is now a chunk of unfinished 2x2, there's no loner a pistol grip, and the rxvr is a pop-riveted tin stud with no mag well. It's just an ugly single shot now ............. Okay Good. Torch cut the 'rxvr' and import the single shot kits. All said and done, the kits should go up about $15, the third world shithole will be felating with gratitude over their new industry, and we still salvage the important parts. Whathca think, Bitches? |
+1 Now I'm scared! Is ATF going to throw us in jail for building these things? It sounded like they didn't care if it was 922 compliant or not, they don't want "new" firearms being made. |
Though it will mean an end to shory barrels from Bulgaria, i see Arsenal USA and DSA picking up the slack! The price for shorty krinks and congo FAL's will go up a little, tha'ts about it! Though i see G3's and others having problems in future, but hey if you can make a AK or FAL barrel why not a HK???
Kvar will just import the barrel making equipment and the guy who ran it, they have already imported a bunch of shop equipment. |
That was my thought, why couldn't someone just import the equipment and start producing them here?
You would think it would pay for itself in the long run. |
Does that bar new receivers too, as in VEPRs, WASPS, and even a bare IMBEL? |
It is probally cheaper to bring in stuff at eastern european wages than bringing all that stuff here and paying American wages, green cards for worker, taxes and blah blah blah. Now with a future ban it is going to make economic sense. |
How long till barrels start getting smuggled in through Mexico?
Group trip to TJ? Course we are citizens - lets pay some illegals to bring 'em in since the BP doesn't care at all. Oh, and yes - fuck the ATF |
Will this also shut down manufacturer's like Arsenal, Inc from importing the parts for their rifles?
They can bring in anything but recievers and barrels. |
I think it does. no more Imbel recievers |
anything that was imported as a complete weapon in the past year or so will still be able to be brought in.
Alot of those (VEPRs, Saiga's, WSARs, ect..) are still importable because they are SPORTING weapons. |
1]In the long run this won't be so bad.
2]As pointed out we will just see US manufacturers pick up the slack. 3]There are going to be plenty of bbls for sale in the US How will they ever know what date they came in?????????? 4]You've got to be a total fascist POS to even work for ATF. I mean...B-A-T-F-E.
