Hey Guys - Can I ask a couple of questions here, I would appreciate any advice.
I'm a long time AR fan, love my Garands, but one thing I don't have is any kind of AK platform. I know this is about the worst time to be looking for one, but you see I live in Colorado, and I feel like I need to get one like, now.  So as I browse through Armslist and Gunbroker at listing after listing for $2000 Romanians, the SAM7R sitting at $1299 starts to look a little better. I guess what it comes down to is, if I'm going to drop that kindof cash on an AK, I would like it to be at least somewhat justified. Questions: 1. How inflated is $1299 for this rifle. I have seen some indications that it was around the $1000 range before the SHTF, but I never found anything solid. I don't mind paying a little too much during this crap, but there are limits to that and I don't want to pay WAY too much, if you know what I mean. 2. I have read a lot of positive reviews of the SLR 101, but search results for the SAM7R are pretty slim, these are the same rifle correct? I'm trying to figure out why they would change the name, if nothing on the rifle actually changed. 3. Lastly, is K-var good to go for ordering this rifle? Thank You for any help you may offer, NB |

My only guess on the name change is that Arsenal/K-Var said it was the last batch of SLR101s to be imported. So they had to change the name, ha. The 101 was 1049 before the craziness and i think the SAM7R-61 came out during the craziness, K-Var sells the SAM7R-61 for 1299 so that is the "retail" of it now.

I know the old SAM7's were made on receivers that were imported as 80% receivers, then finished in the US. Maybe now they are importing 100% receivers then doing all the assembly in the US? Who knows. |

If you want one now, $1299 is not horrible. It's not like you'll lose money on it in the long run. 2. Yes, the SAM7R-61 currently being sold by K-Var is the exact same rifle as the SLR-101. K-Var/Arsenal just changed the name. I don't know why. The only thing it has done is confuse people. 3. Yes, K-Var is good to go. They are backed-up right now like almost everyone else, so after you order it could take as long as 4+ weeks to receive the rifle. |

I donated $50 to their charity and my wait time is about a week on my rifle, from order placed until received at FFL, if the UPS tracking # I have is correct. What's a Russian firearm without a little bribe? |

Well, I gotta say, K-Var is on the fuckin' ball over there. 9 days from order to rifle in hand. I have little experience with AK's, but I am impressed with the quality of this rifle out of the box. I can't wait to break it in.

Because of customer wants, arsenal bulgaria has decided to change the names of all civilian rifles to more closely resemble thier military counterparts. The rifle in question and the samk pistol are the first of these. But there will be no more slr rifles. This info is from the review of the 101 in the new ak47 solviet weapons mag.
