My buddy bought a Colt AR platform carbine in 7.62x39.

For those of you in the know, how will this Colt compare

to the AK's he and I own? Is the Colt carbine going to

bring out better accuracy in the 762 cartridge? Longer

effective range? Iron sights only. Thank you.

It should be more accurate than a base AK. You've got better sights, much tighter tolerances, quicker followup from direct impingement and buffer system etc etc etc. There's also some more room for improvement with free floating the barrel and more. With the right ammo I would imagine it's easily capable of less than 1.5moa in the right hands

Cool rifle. I'd much rather have most AK's of similar value, or try the rock river lar-47 out

The big downside to an AR in 7.62X39 is going to be finding quality, reliable magazines.

I haven't found that to be difficult.

We're hoping for good accuracy from the Colt. We've loaded up a bunch of brass with

good components; 25.5 gr. AA1680, CCI primers, various brass and a light crimp (Lee FCD).

Just hoping the bore is close to .311 and not .308! As all the bullets we loaded are .310-.312.

Guess we'll see.

It seems like c-products/ASC have hammered out most of the issues. I have been thinking about building an AR in 7.62x39 to SBR.

You loose RELIABILITY and mags wont be as reliable either. Friend of mine has one and hates it. He is selling it to buy a AK.

My main AR is, and always will be a 556. I wouldn't get a x39 AR to be a primary, but it would be a fun blaster/hunting rifle.

First I love my AK's I currently own 3 in 7.62x39 I have in the past owned Vepr (most accurate AK I have ever owned) Milled Bulgarian (most beautiful I have ever owned) and My Current 3 an Arsenal a AMD65 and Romy ge put together  on a NoDak Spud receiver. All of them are and have been great guns. That said I also own a Yankee Hill Machine 7.62x39 AR. Considerably more accurate than any AK I have ever owned Using ASC 30 round mags I have in the 750 rounds I have Run through it NEVER had a failure  to feed  and to date it has been as realiable as any of the AKs I have owned.  Despite  all of the often repeated internet rumors in Semi Auto Auto fire AR in 7.62x39  appear to be no less or more reliable than any other AR. I love mine YHM , like most reputable companies seems to have resolved the bugaboos of the past with this caliber. That said I wont be selling My AKs and if push came to shove the YHM would go to the block way before the AK's , but that is because I love AK's

1500+ rounds through my YHM 7.62x39 AR, zero failures of any kind.

800+ rounds through my Armalite 7.62x39 AR, one FTE.

Both rifles have never seen brass cased ammo, they have been fed only Russian steel case since day one.

I always laugh at the "7.62x39 ARs don't run" comments.

This gun comes w/some 30 round ASC mags. I'm looking forward to helping my buddy

load custom rounds for this gun. Accuracy has to be better than my AK's, and just

as much fun to shoot I suspect. Also, I'm going to load up a slug of 150 grainers for it,

should be a good round. Thanks to all. BTW, is the bore .311?
