Is there any practical difference in the different styles of combloc side-plates used to mount optics?

I want to be able to mount the RS Regulate AKM mount to my rifle.

Does it matter if I get the Russian MTK-03, for example:

verses the Bulgarian -74 style mount:

Will they both work the same?

I tend to favor 74 pattern and newer rails like RMP3 and the 74M rails but the MTK03 should work with the RS mount. The trickier part is what kind of AK you have which will determine what kind of rail to install because the rivets do not always line up from model to model. I prefer AK74 variants like the SLR series and the Saiga / SGL's which all use either the RMP3 style or the 74M. When you get into 7.62 AK's things open up quite a bit and there can be large variations in side rail mounting depending on the country and optic in question.

I am actually looking at putting mounts on two rifles––one built on a NDS-1KP receiver, the other built on a NDS2-EZ receiver.  So, one 7.62 pattern and one 5.45 pattern.
