Done.  This is like the lottery.  You never know if you'll get some aluminum Russians or fleur de lis Bosnians.  Besides, I had an unrestricted $10 off coupon to use by the end of the month.

Sportsman's guide also has 5-packs of 20-rd Hungarian AK mags for $44.97...

I like the idea of these because they are easier to use in a prone position at the range.

Just a suggestion, guys!

I received my mags today.  I got 21 good condition Eurpoean and Chinese (I think) 30 round steel mags.  I also received one dented magazine and one with literally 0 finish.

But.... I also got one nice Russian slabside magazine!

Not bad at all.

Man, if only I had fifty bucks. I've got only two magazines for my AK, and they're both dented Romanian surplus. One doesn't even feed quite right.

Mine came in today!  When I clean the cosmo off them I'll take pics.  Not sure what I got, there's some with ribs some without, only mags I owned before these are Chinese mags

Just got mine.  I got 2 regular nonribbed chinese. 1 stamped sideplate chinese.  1 I can't identify (it is ribbed has 2 thick vertical lines and 1 thick horizontal line at the bottom of the mag)Bosnian  The rest seem to be a mix of European ribbed or possibly transitional Chinese not sure(some have 2 horizontal lines others have 2 long and 1 short at the bottom of the mag) about 1/2 Yugo and other 1/2 European  A few are rusted most have a good amount of Cosmo on them.  3 had the floor plate loose in the bag.

If they're correctly identified in aj2001's post, mine appear to be:
-3 YUGOS (BOLT HOLD OPEN)
-7 MISC EUROPE
-1 STANDARD CHINESE (NO RIB)
-1 unidentified aluminum

Can someone identify this one for me?

JohnTheTexican,

I believe the aluminum are highly sought after Russian mags.  Go search the AK parts and mags on the EE and see what some are asking for them.

Search for user name greentimber on the Equipment Exchange and pull up his ad and pictures.  Price is higher then the 12 pack of mags would cost you.

The Russian slabsides are also advertised on the EE for more then most of you guys paid for your 6 pack of mags.

I don't know if you guys can get that much for your mags but if in good condition and you can sell it for anywhere near $30 or $40 or more to someone that just has to have  it, you just got the rest of your mags for free.

My 24 come Monday. I let you all get in on it before I decided I just had to get some more mags I don't need.

w00t!

That's it.  And that one mag sells for twice what I paid for all 12.

I'm not real sure about the price of un-marked Bosnian mags but the ones with the Boy Scout type emblem on the side are going for around 120.00.The prices have been comming down since so many have come into the Country with the SG mag deal but in time the prices will go back up.They're well worth the price of the 12 pk mag deal.

I just got 24 more in. I got 4 unmarked Bosnians and the rest are normal. With the exception of a funny one inch sticker on one of the mags. It says: "Lovely Girls" This sticker is on both sides of the lone "Lovely Girls" mag. I will post a picture when I post my Boyscout Bosnian mag.

Overall Im very happy w/ the whole lot, the absolute worst on of the bunch, a yugo w/ some rust is still ten times better than the best of the 4 dented rusty yugos I just got from centerfire for $50

What method did you use to remove the Cosmoline from the mags? I need a method that works. Engine degreaser isn't working very well.

You Guys are doing so good you've inspired me to order a few more Myself.
The only thing I've been using to remove the cosmoline is a spray on penetrating oil, just spray it on,let it sit and wipe it off.

I go to the auto parts store and pick up any spray on penetrating oil? Any certain brand? I want to get the right thing.

First of all.........soak them for a couple off days in paint thinner. Then go over them with a fairly stiff brush.

Secondly...........I'm jealous again!!!! I missed the first batch. I ordered two dozen this time and it looks like I got 6 Yugo bolt hold open, a bunch of Chinese with no rib, just a little hump running down the back  and the usual BS assortment of Euro mags. STILL........a great deal at $6 per mag. But no "winners" for me.

I don't know Jack about AK mags, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's this:

The difference is in the follower.  The one on the left is like almost all my other AK mags.  I'm assuming that the one on the right is the bolt hold open mag.  The mag body looks like the Yugo bolt hold open mags in aj2001's post.  Apart from minor differences in the mag body, that extra bit on the follower is the only difference I can see.

John, you're correct. The difference is in the follower.

The Penetrating Oil I use is Autozone Multi Purpose Spray Lubricant,it cuts the cosomline pretty quick without removing the paint.

Mak,the possibility of getting a Russian waffle is what keeps me ordering!Hopefully I'll have better luck in the next round!Here's what I got in my last 12 pk;
5-Russian Steel mags
2-East German
3-Yugo BHO
1-Chinese Stamped
1-Bosnian

Not a bad "Roll of the Bones" but I'm still trying!
Link Posted: 7/27/2006 10:51:14 PM EDT

damn you guys. i was really trying to not spend more $$ on mags. that waffle pic pushed me over the fence 1 12 pack on the way. I had a $10 off $50+ and club membership which put me at $72 shipped, about $6/mag shipped

i will be happy with some alum waffles in my order

one can hope anyway, but this looks like a pretty good batch of magazines at SG. It was still showing "in stock" hopefully not another 10 pack fiasco

The other thing to look for is the lack of dimples inside the mag body that limit the upward travel of the follower.  That's why Yugo followers don't work in other Euro mag bodies.

My 12 pack is supposed to show up today.  With my typical luck, it will be all garden varieity Euros and nothing exotic..
