What model # Colt did the upper come off of & its age?

It will work, however depending on the model of Colt, you may need additional offset pins: http://www.dpmsinc.com/search/?s=offset+screw to attach the two.

thanks for the info. not sure what year the colt is. its a flot top upper tho. a3 maybe?
