So - educate me.

Someone said something about lining up marks, yet I see none (like a timing chain?)

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

the flats should be at the 9 and 3 o'clock position and or the middle port should be at the 12 o'clock position

Cool- thanks for the fast reply.  I am finishing up two or maybe 3 rifles tonight and was clueless.

How about the torque spec?

From another site:

According to AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit) specs, do not torque the flash hider. Get yourself some red Loctite and leave off the crush washer. Hand tighten the FH until properly timed, then allow to "set up" overnight. Torquing the FH onto the barrel stretches the barrel threads and screws up your barrel harmonics.

I see 15-20Lbs and also 35-40 Lbs as well- a confusing array of information.

There are opinions both ways regarding torque specs. If you use red locktite, you'll need alot of heat and elbow grease to get the bugger off again. I've always seen crush washers used.

A little tip You can file the crush washer to the point where you just have to turn the flashhider about an 1/8 of a turn to get it clocked right. I leave mine a little cocked with the closed portion to the left as looking at it while holding the rifle. Might just be me but it seem's to lessen muzzle rise during rapid fire. Probably all in my head but hey it work's for me.

The -23 Maintenance Manual states 15-20 FT-LBS.

I personally do not torque FHs. I install and then tighten until indexed.

That's what I did - thanks!  I did like the red lock-tite idea though.

Until you want to remove it.

I use blue LT on my muzzle accessories. I'd like to get them off again someday.
