Im curious about what distance you guy’s sight in your 308 is they’re a commonly accepted distance like with 223’s?
From reading on here it seems pretty well agreed upon here that with a 223 its best to go with 50 yard zero that will keep you fairly on target out to 200 yards.

My question is what is the recommend zeroing range for a 308?

I sight my FAL/EOTech combo at 100 yards, but there's nothing scientic about that. I'd be curious as to what others do.

I read in a .308 thread that 45 and 200 yards are the same point of aim.  Sighted my AR-10A4 in that distance and it was only 1/2-1 minute off at 100 yards using a 200 yard target reduced for 100 yards.

I sight all my scopes (including my Remington 700, my only .308) at 100 yds.

as per the acog instructions, 25 yds in the chevron atop the post, 100 yds at the point of the chevron...... works out perfectly, and the bdc lines seem to work with 147g surplus ammo.

I like some of the line graphs that one of the guys has posted for 223.  I wonder if there is corresponding data for the 308.  
Actually does anybody have a link to the 223 thread with the line graphs that Im talking about I think the author goes by “cold” maybe ill pm him and see if he has ever experimented with 308 ballistics.

My M1A has the iron sights zeroed at 25 then confirmed and tweaked at 100m.  This allows the elevation scale on the sight to work.  My Aimpoint is zeroed at 50 for a 50/200m zero.

Hey guys, JimJones quoted the IBSZ sight in distance for AR-15 iron sights. Tthat's why I have been giving him the iron sight distance for AR-10s.  He hasn't mentioned if he is using an optic so why don't we wait till lets us know more info.  Like if he is using an optic and what it is.

One factor for determining your zero needs to be how much elevation adjustment your scope has.  If it runs out of adjustment before your max range, then you need to increase your zero distance.  My scope has plenty of adjustment, so I use a 100 yd zero.

Let's say the max range I want to hit is 1k yards with my .308

I need 37.25 MOA to reach it from a 100 yard zero. But if my scope only has 30 MOA left of travel after zeroing, I'd fall short (not counting using holdovers)

If I zero at 400 yards, I'd only need 30 MOA to reach 1k.

Sounds good BUT, to get from my 100 yard zero to 400 yard zero I need to go up 7.25 MOA.

That would leave me with 22.75 MOA  available, I'd still be over 7 MOA short.

Well right now Im concerned with getting my iron sights set up.  The rifle is my M1A and I am currently zeroed at 25 yards.  I would like to know where at down range that intersects with?  Because the last time I took the M1A out shooting I was shooting at what I would estimate probably around 250-350 yards and it seemed like I was shooting 1-2 feet low.
Rather than messing around with my rear sight knob I was just practicing on estimating hold over.

I don’t currently have a scope Im on the waiting list for a LRB Arms M25 receiver that should be ready in the next couple of months once I get the receiver the scope that I am planning on using is the Swarovski Z6 1.7 – 10 x 42 with the ballistic turret.  Swaro Z6

What I like about this scope is you can easily switch your zero to 3 different ranges by adjusting the turrets on top of the scope.  This is why I am wondering what the rainbow curve of the 308 is.  I was planning on setting the first one for whatever the 308 equivalent to the 223 IBSZ and then using the other 2 settings for 400 and 500 yards.

What ammo? What velocity? What height over bore?

If you have those, you can plug it into the JBM ballistics calculator and it will show you the drop, which is pretty darned close.
