Indeed Duffy, that is the new AP QD for the T1. What I like is they do not raise the height of the T1 itself which is always good when using the unit as a B/U MRD while mounted on a SAR Ring! Nice review!! Vic PS, I have these in stock now! |
You should offer the QD mount as an option
I do hate the factory mount that requires a hex key, this is much better |
So is the new AP 'QD' mount the lowest mount available?
What is the difference in height between the AP QD mount and the low Larue mount? |
LaRue's rep told me yesterday that the low LaRue mount (LT661) puts the Micro's centerline 0.8" above the rifle, which is really too low for an AR mounting. I haven't seen an LT661 yet, but it's hard to imagine a mounting any lower than that pictured above.
I don't believe it's possible to mount the T1 any lower than with its own factory mount. The semi-QD kit merely gives it a tool-less installation capability, but still uses the mount that came with the T1.
It's entirely too low for an AR15, but for an HK 9x rifles, HK36, M1A, etc. where even a low AR mount is too high for a proper cheek weld, the factory mount makes it possible to obtain a good cheek weld. |
+1 here! |
I'm considering it for a M1A optic on a Ultimak handguard rail.
So it sound like the factory mount (with toolless option) is lower than the low Larue mount. The larue low mount puts the Micro centerline 0.8" up from the rifle. Could someone measure the factory mount from rifle to centerline? |
I measure just under 0.7" from the top of the rail to the optical centerline for the AP factory mount. It is a little tough to get a measurement accurate to three decimal places, but it is most definitely less than 0.8". |

Haha the idea of using 3 mounts to achieve the function of one must have been hard to stomach for your mechanical engineer's mind
I did the same earlier this morning using a KAC riser, it was still too low. Did ya see ADM's new T1 mount? It's a mini ACOG mount with a spacer for the T1, it seems to be in line of your contraption, using too many parts to do the work of one |
Oh cool, Thanks for pointing this out Duffy! This will work perfectly for my T1 mounted on my Krebs AK.
I'd put one on my AK too, but I have to get a rail handguard for it first and destroy its classic looks. Before it's done I'd have spent twice the amount of what I paid for the AK

Duffy, what can I say other than that I was a bit bored, and felt like being creative; there might have even been a BEvERage involved in the design. Besides, I already had the parts, and it only took about five minutes of labor to drill & tap the two holes. Actually, the setup is pretty solid, and I'm sure that it would function just fine if need be. The SEI rail will soon be returned back to the tripod optics test rig where it belongs.
I also tried a YHM 1/2" riser the other day, but it is too low. What is the height of your KAC riser? I hadn't seen the ADM T-1 mount previously until you pointed it out. It has one less connection than my "contraption", which is coincidentally the same number of connections as something well proven like a standard Leupold base & rings. Again, I don't see any reason why the ADM would not work just fine. It is also small enough to allow the use of a PVS, which my mess does not without moving the optic to the handguard. That being said, I still think that I will hold out for a LT-660. Speaking of backorders, hopefully Tactical Solutions will have some Buckmark rails available soon as well. To me, the factory AP mount will really shine in applications such as that or on AK's. |
Very nice indeed! I have been debating matte OD or black for the barrel finish, and you have now made that decision even harder; the green looks really good.
Since we are posting T-1 porn, here is my contribution: These pics should drive the folks who think that it is somehow wrong to use an optic which costs as much as the weapon absolutely batty.... nearly 4x as much in this particular case on a $149 weapon many years back. This carbines twin is still in the original plastic bag swimming in cosmoline unopened; I now wish that I had bought a dozen. |

You should try that throw lever on the new daniel defense mount.
I WISH I Could show that one! |

Great idea, and a good time for a plug for ar15.com. I'm really slack, 'cause I haven't renewed my membership, but this is the Krink I WON in the member's raffle 2 raffles ago! As it arived. After the hand guard rail addition with T-1. The NDS rail mount with ML2. Final and current setup with Malkoff CREE weaponlight and T-1. With added sling swivels (I'm a southpaw). |
Haha good job Edwin, won a dang rifle but let the membership lapse, there's irony somewhere
I've shot a Krink and AK in full auto, these things are all over the place, even with a straight line stock |
You're right, I blew a chance to win two years running! I'll fix that however for next time! You're right, full auto it's almost a phone booth gun (mine is semi only), but semi rapid fire is devastating to the target. Here is a very rapid fire 50 yard target with the T-1, prone on the mag as a monopod, shooting Iraqi surplus. In short, the T-1 rocks! |
Wes you're always invited
I need to get a rail handguard for my AK |
And I need to get another MRP 16" SS barrel, and have it shortened and cut for the OPS 12th collar! |
Now that is a CLEAN setup Wes! |
THANKS.
YOUR T-1 OFFSET MOUNT IS QUITE TIDY, AS WELL. IT IS INDEED THE SOLUTION TO THE NEEDS OF A CERTAIN GROUP. GOOD SHOOTING, WES |

Duffy,
Thanks for the photos and directions. Now I can figure out how to mount it on the base. I stopped by Aimpoint of Friday (they are HQ'ed here locally) and they gave me this part to try on my T1. The part was in a plactic bag with no directions either. I wanted to mount it on my Baretta Storm 9mm carbine and the original mount would not tighten up as I ran out of threads. The Storm rail is supposed to be a Weaver rail system but I think the specs were off as I could not get the sight to tighten down on the rail at all. They gave me the QD mount under warrenty and said it should take care of the problem. (Great customer service Aimpoint!) Well in the mean time, I had mounted the T1 on my Mini 14 and it works perfectly on that and the Mini can hold an ok pattern out to 50 yards freehand with this sight. It is the only red dot sight I have had that fits low enough not to screw up my cheek weld and sight alignment on this gun. Being a good ARFcom member, I went and ordered a new T1 today to put on the Storm to replace a slightly bulky Burris XTR135 Speed Dot that was starting to give me a power switch issue about a week ago. I'll let you all know how it works when the new T1 arrives later this week Again, thanks much for posting the directions! |
Lol I didn't exactly post directions, but I didn't have any pictures showing how it should be installed when I got it, I guess the pictures serve as directions. As you can see, the right side of the T1 is kind of scratched up, from me mounting the lever on the right side instead of the left
What's kind of messed up is that it let me mount it incorrectly, the lever just couldn't be thrown either way if it's mounted on the right side. |
