It seems like the 1/3 cowitness is the way to go, as i've had coworkers suggest this.  Do you know if the RRA Dominator is 1/3?  They say it places the dot above the front sight post, so i guess that would put the sights in the lower portion of the Eotech window.

Thanks for the reply to my question.  I'm thinking I'll need to go with either the Larue mount of the RRA mount.  I've already put a buis from GG&G on my rifle, but i think having the fixed sight with the Dominator might be my best option.  There's definately a hell of a lot to choose from.  hock.gif

I have the dominator 2 Mount with the eotech. The sights do appear in the lower part of the window.

Nice setup Nutnfancy, who makes that front sight btw and do you think the scope will work with a standard A2 post? I've seen it done before, just don't know if it will affect the sight out of the scope too much.

Hey ARSaint-

The front sight is a fold-down, locks-up unit by PRI.  It's expensive but does clear out your view a bit.  Leaving your standard fixed sight in place will work ok too; it will blur out in the scope a bit and you'll mostly ignore it.  I had run this setup for years but finally got to where I wanted the full unobstructed view.  Link below for PRI Home:

I have a Crimson Trace laser sight which replaces my standard trigger hand grip and locks securely into my carry handle.  I mounted an EOTech on top the carry handle and have no problem with sighting.  The laser is zeroed at 7 yds for "uninvited guests" in my home and the EO at 50yds which puts it on again at 250.   I always take my rig to visit my son in Phoenix and we make an afternoon at the Usery Mountain range.  We have no trouble bagging the 300 meter iron plate that is about 3' x 3'.  Since recoil isn't a factor with the 5.56 a higher sight mount doesn't affect my shooting.

It looks like an earlier version of the Barska M16 Electro Sight.

www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=339227

I have one on my PS90 and have been happy with it.  The stadia lines are, in theory, 200 and 300 yard holdover lines for .223 zeroed at 100yds, but I would be surprised if the ballistic info was accurate.

Well I am new to world of the AR.  Bought a Bushmaster about a month ago.

I also bought a Bushnell Trophy MP Sight.  On top of the carry handle it was atleast 3 feet off of zero at 100 yds.  But my supervisor at work is pretty much like Tackleberry from the Police Academy movies so we got it better than that.

Off to learn more from these forums.

DMS-1 mounted on Leupold QRW medium 30mm matte rings (.850) (#49863) ordered from Midway with the scope.

Mount is a GG&G scout rail and GG&G rear BUIS, PRI front BUIS.

The GG&G BUIS clears the scope bottom by approx 5mm.

The rings, scope and Butler Creek flip up lens covers came to $278.  The covers are backordered.  Additional pics are in the Millett DMS-1 thread.

Among all the EOTechs, Aimpoints, and ACOGs there is a lonely TriPower...

Just picked this up and wanted to show it off to anyone thinking about an optic, nothing against EOTech or Aimpoint, just wanted to try something different and the TriPower is another quality product from Trijicon, on a LT-129 from LaRue.

Sold my Irons to get the optic and mount, and them my car decided to tap out, so everything has been redirected.

Just assembled a POF lower with a Larue Stealth 18".
Trying to decide on optics. I will eventually get a shorter upper for close in stuff.
However for now I would like to engage close up and also out to 200+yards.
I have looked at everything on AR15 and have read everything but would like someones real world experience.
I have friends with Eotechs. I have looked at short dots and Acogs. Does the Acog with the Doctor red dot on top work well for CQ practical rifle?
I was also wondering how the SpecerDR worked with both eyes open close in?
Thanks for any opinions.

The Ultra Dot 30 is only 5.1 inches long and weighs just 4.1 oz. Every sight is backed by a Lifetime Warranty, 48 hour return time on repairs (if ever needed) I wouldn't live in the woods with this Red Dot but for range trips I can never see being without it. In other words if you never drop it, it will always work ($135)

Thanks for all the picture and descriptions. Learned more here in a few hours than I could have in few days somewhere else. Just purchased my DPMS in .308 and would like to hunt deer with it as well as have it for a SHTF gun. These ideas and demonstrations make for a perfect tutorial for what I need. Thanks again.

Hey folks!

I finally decided on an optic for now.  I acquired a Bushnell Red Dot.  Heard some decent things about it for a budget red dot.  My question is, Will there be a sight disadvantage If i mounted it to sit higher than the front sight?  I do not want to cowitness (at this point) with a BUIS/FSB.  I just want to use the red dot a la carte, but dont want to move the front sight.

Any drawbacks?

I was thinking of the cheapie 1"-30mm all in one ring at AIM for $21.95 (http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/AR_Command_Arms_Dual_Scope_Ring_Rail_Mount.html).  Will this raise the red dot high enough to clear the front sight?

Thanks,
A-N-D
