I have not used an M16 since 1970 when drafted and only with iron sights. I bought a AR15 with carry handle this past month. I would like to put  a scope or other optics on it. I plan on using it for groundhogs, coyotes and fun. Fast aquisition is not so important to me. Average distance is 75yds to 150yds. I see so much advice on the forum.  Any recommendations?

FWIW, due to the height of the scope on the carry handle and the iffy "cheek-weld" which results (which could be aleviated now by use of one of the new Magpul adjustable stocks) most of us prefer mounting our scopes to a flat-topped uppered AR.

As noted; although a Magpul stock can fix this issue your still stuck with a greater than normal "height-over-bore" issue.

For red-dot (Aimpoint) type mounting on A2 uppers here's a viable option:

sold by ARMS, the #39A2 works.

Thank you. That was the route I was considering after talking to aimpoint. I just dont want to spend that much money and be unhappy. Chris

IMHO, compact ACOG are the best for carry handle

+1

Sounds like 2x20 Compact ACOG will suit your needs well.

ETA: If you are going to shoot relatively smaller targets beyond 100 yards for the most of the time Compact ACOG has any reflex sights beat hands down.

+1, and if you use a nose-to-the-charging handle head position the 3x version works well.

the compact acog is probably the only optic i would put on the carry handle other than an oeg

I prefer 1X optics, for those distances. Aimpoint CompM, QRP mount, surplus gooseneck mount.

Is the A.R.M.S #39A2 mount just for a carbine?  I've been looking for a mount for an EOTech and this is one of the mounts I'm thinking about getting.  It looks like it attaches to th front of the handguard.  Will this work with the EOTech and will it co-witness with the iron sights?

Some of the other options I've been looking at is the Bennie Cooley B-C Cam or aYankee Hill Tactical Handguard.  I have the same questions as the 39A2.

The 39 will work on a rifle. I don't think the EoTech will cowitness on it though, it would be to high.

TA47-2. It is everything that I could have expected. Height is perfect for carry handle.

Since the initial question of this thread has been answered, successfully, congrats on your purchase MAUK1949.

TWONAMI, What mount did you use?  It looks like you have the M4 handguards as I do, I was concerned about clearance with a mount on the M4 handguards versus the slimmer CAR handguards.  Does the EOTECH only have a single mounting screw?  Would it work on the Aimpoint mount like WIZZO has?  Do those mounts allow for lower 1/3 co-witness?

It seems the forward carry handle mounts also position for better protection of the optic.  I had to jump in here since there were two excellent pictures of mounts and optics.

What kind of stock do you have?  Are you shooting an A2 20" ?  I'm curious if the eye relief is such that you don't have to shoot ntch.  Good luck with your optic!!!  Nice choice.
