Here is the link to the article. Also a nice little blurb about Leitner-Wise. www.special-operations-technology.com/department.cfm?id=5 SpecterDR is a new dual role 1X and 4X combat sight that combines close and precision fire ranged combat features into a single, low profile dual-field-of-view sight. The combination allows soldiers to move through buildings and confined areas in a red dot mode and then instantly be able to switch to 4X in order to engage targets at extended ranges—out to about 600 meters—without changing sight. Situational awareness in both magnifications is improved with ultra-wide viewing angles and low-light viewing conditions. Even so, the combination sight weighs less than carrying two sights and offers more inherent capability. The sight is designed for use with the M4, M16, M249 and M240 weapons. |

Looks like they carried over the external sighting adjustments of the ELCAN to this new design.
Bad decision... Why not just go with a BDC reticle? |
Sweet......now where between $1000-$2000 shall the price fall.
First thing I'll do when I get mine is loan it out to a little machine shop in Leander, TX.
That thing looks freaking
Seriously, that looks killer. |
Probably closer to the 2K range |
Gotta agree with you there. I keep fantasizing the Raytheon Exec staff in a meeting saying, "we need to keep this thing affordable to appeal to the big Army." NOT! |
Absolutely nearer $2k. More in line with S&B short-dot. Essential a $1000 ACOG and $400 Aimpoint or Eotech in one sight. Easily way, way up there in price. It would be cool if the reticle could change from the 1x to 4x setting. A red dot on 1x and some sort of BDC when shifting over to 4x. |

This is something many have pestered Trijicon to do for a long time, alas ELCAN came out with it, along with its external adjustments. The robo-arms looking windage (if it's like the older ELCAN) thingie looks clumsy and heavy, whose bright idea was it to put the adjustment around and below the objective lens?

Guys this scope is the sh%t!!! This one sight does it all. Just a simple throw of the lever to change from 1X to 4X. We handled the Spectrum DR sight system for about a week. They come with a 3" eye relief, iron back up sights, throw lever mounts, bullet drop compensator with luminated dot, and the instant ability to go from 1X to 4X on the move with a throw of the lever. To match what the Spectrum DR does, you would have to purchase a magnifier for you dot site, and mount this additional piece of equipment for added weight to your weapon system. This system has the ability to engage all targets for CQB and distance shooting with a simple throw of the lever. This is the type of engineering that's needed to help reduce weight, battery usage, and the need to carry LESS equipment for different operational needs. LESS IS BETTER! Elcan combined the needs of CQB and distance shooting needs. This WILL be a big hit in the 3 gun community. We hope other manufactures of site systems do the same to reduce additional equipment needs / weight. They will be priced for about what the ACOG sell for. We WILL offer a complete gas piston weapon system / package, using the Spectrum DR in the near future. Best regards, Frank Patriot Ordnance Factory www.POF-USA.com PS: Darren, still awaiting you to call me about your ARM-R rail system. Hope to hear from you soon. |

The one they have right now weighs.....28 oz.s
They're working on a diet plan. Simon |

Looks pretty interesting but from what I saw in that link I'm not too impressed with the reticle. Maybe it'll work better in real life but so far I don't think I'd get one. |

Does this have an integrated laser range finder, or is that a demo tool offered for reference? I think I know the answer, but based on that flash demo, it looks like a HUD range finder. ----which would be the nicer ass for the cat. eta: I read in the .pdf, the weight was 575 grams, or 20.28 oz. - while that is twice the ACOG TA31 (10.9 oz.) it is dual purpose |
Based on their flash demo, I see nothing to indicate the reticle is in any way a ranging or BDC reticle. Nothing on it correspnds to any dimensions on the targets at any of the ranges. The reticle does appear to have something that resembles a scale (albeit very, very small scale) below the red dot at the center. But again, it doesn't match up to common dimensions on any of the targets presented in the flash demo at any range that would indicate it's purpose to be for ranging.
ETA: Nor does the reticle change size when the power is switched. Now, I may be reading to much into this flash demo. But, why else would they include the range finder at the top if not to show the user how the sight picture looks at those ranges. |
No batteries required............right?
couldn't find reference one way or another |
God knows I can't afford one... but I hope you boys go out and buy them and hand your Eotechs over to me.
Very cool system! - BG |
Yeah baby Exactly what us 3-gunner has been bugging Trijicon for! and if it is priced in the ACOG TA11 range, I'd have to sell something |
Does the ACOG weight include the weight of a flattop mount? |
If you factor in the tradeoff in weight of a flattop mount and BUIS, the weight doesn't seem that bad, unless you've already got 10 extra lbs. of tactical crap hanging off your rifle...
I believe the BUIS on the scope can't be compared to the set mounted on the rifle itself.
This scope sounds pretty cool. I did not like, and ended up taking off the Elcan scope that was on my 240G in Iraq. It seemed a lot harder to use than the iron sights, especially from a vehicle.
No one has addressed the important questions:
When is it supposed to be out? Who is carrying it? How much? Can it be pre-ordered? Please Lord don't let this be Shrike-like vaporware! PS, I can't believe no one has commented about the ARMS throw levers yet. |
I spoke with someone in the know. It MAY be available to limited users by SHOT 2006. The price is $1600'ish to defence industry types. I am sure the regular folk will pay a premium as they trickle down.
What MOA is the red dot? How is it illuminated? Could you fit a BUIS behind it?
The BUIS is only for heavy rain/emergency. BUIS should co-witness. Powered by one of those coin shaped batteries. I have no idea how long it lasts, but keep in mind, the Doctor sight uses a similar battery that lasts for 6 years.
I am not sure if the eye releif it is set for would allow a BUIS.
I believe the Aimpoint as well..50,000 hours or something along those lines. If I have my optic on for 2000+ full days I'm either dead or in a boatload of return fire trouble. |
I don't think so, OLY. I got that directly from the Trijicon site, where it lists the scope separate from the mounts. See specifications here |
Have you been over --------------------->HERE? I didn't think the ARMS bashing was warranted there.........or here. But a lot of folks are polarized on that point. |
That was the reason I brought it up. |
If the Trijicon's are weighed without their flat top adapaters, and the ELCAN is weighed with it's the weight difference shrinks pretty signifigantly. Just wondering............................................ |
