I'm assuming this 7.62x39 magazine is designed for use w/ an AR lower?

As w/most (dare I say all?) 7.62 x 39 designs utilizing any magazine other than an AK mag, IMHO the magazines themselves have always been the dismal failure to the weapon system . (SKS, Min-14 etc.) As such, I've never truly considered a 7.62 x 39 set-up fro my AR(s).  If these mags are as good as I suspect they'll be, coming from CProducts, it's going to give me a whole new AR dimension to consider.

Most interesting.

I do not want to criticize CProducts. I hope they make real good mags, and I read that several people want exactly these mags.

Perhaps I want a 7.62x39 AR sometime, too.

But I wish they would concentrate on making all the already ordered 5.56 AR SS mags, and make them in top quality. Then, when demand drops ( IF it drops! ) its time to place something new ( IMO ).

I do not want to offense anybody! ( I just want my mags badly ;-))

I have always wanted a 7.62x39 AR, but of course there were never any good quality mags available.

This is definitely something that I'll be following.

I need several 6.8 mags but I am not going to order any more until my stainless 5.56 mags arrive first.  Once they are delivered and meet my approval (just like their 20 round mag bodies did) THEN I will order the 6.8 mags.  At half the cost of the PRI mags (and I still had to tweak the feed lips) I think the CP will be at least as good as the PRI and at half the cost.  At least I hope so.
Waiting, waiting, waiting, and waiting has never been one of my virtues...

I have been swapping e-mails back & forth today with Larry from CP.  He indicates that they are doing some final rework to the prototypes of the X39 mags, which means that, fairly soon, we will likely, FINALLY get our mits on a geniunely reliable, higher capacity mag for our 7.62X39 AR's!

I could be mistaken, but I'd bet that there are a lot of anxious folks out here right now!hug.gif

Here's our promise and we learned this lesson the hard way....We will not rush this product or any new product introduction to market no matter how badly everyone wants it, until we are totally satisfied that it meets the quality standards that you the customer are demanding. Plus after our findings have been verified by certified instructors outside of C Products.

I placed my order.  As soon as they come in I will take them to the range and test them out.  Post pics etc.

The colt sporter can’t wait to get to the range, hog hunt, and do all those things a 7.62 AR can do better than a 5.56.

Just sold my 7.62 Colt because it wouldn't feed reliably with ANY mag I tried in it.  Closest it came was with a couple of frankenstein USA mags that were half AR steel mags and half AK.

Hummm, 5.56 mags.  6.8 mags, 6.5 mags, 7.62 x 39 mags.  Does anyone see what is missing?  How about some .308 mags???  Stainless Steel mags for the DPMS LR-308, which would be right at home with the .500 Phantom just as the SS 5.56 mags will be the new home mags for the .458 SOCOM.
Any one else up for some DPMS SS .308 mags?

I think it would be very nice if reliable alternate caliber magazines could be had from one source.  I have a Colt 7.62x39 on the rack but no working magazines for it makes it a hard sell.  And to build a cave rifle you have to have a very modified AR47.

What, exactly, is a "cave rifle?"  Inquiring minds want to know!

they found a lot of 7.62x39 ammo and mags in caves in afgan. and wanted to use it.
so they build a custon AR that would take AK mags.
silly as they found a ton of AKs along with the mags
but that's the govt. for you

Not really. The SF train with M16s to the point where they don't have to think about how to use it. It's all instinct.  So why switch to a different weapon.  Plus the egomaniacs and accuracy of the AK is not close to that of the M16.

but you have to admit the AR74? is kind of a AR and kind of a AK.  they would still have to retrain to some degree.

Skypilot & HK940,
Now I recall what you are referring to.  It was a real morphodite operation, manufactured by Knight if I recall!  Started out to be just a replacement lower for the AR that would take "battle-field pickup" AK mags.  The idea was to maintain the AR features and functions to the greatest extent possible as well as a very high degree of parts commonality.  By the time they were finished, it was just about a whole new weapon...both upper & lower were totally new...a 1/4" longer to accomodate the tip-in AK mag vs. push-in AR mag, requiring a whole new bolt carrier to go with the longer receivers.

As you pointed out, the only thing the weapon had going for it was that it was an AR...controls, ergonomics, accuracy, etc.  And all for the tidy little sum of about $2200 a copy!  Somehow, the idea of keeping maximum parts commonality flew out the window!

I actually saw a specimen copy at USASFC in late 2002.  Really seems like a great idea that just ran amuck!  Now, as for Larry's mag concept...now that holds some promise!hug.gif

I doubt it.  LULAs don't work loading standard USGI AR mags with 5.45x39mm ammo (yes, I have a ".21 Genghis" AR as well).

Actually, the one I'll be building will be for my dad as well.  Which is so, so funny.  Up until very recently he has not cared for military weapons at all.  When went and shot my DSA/POF ZM4 and my DPMS M4 just this last weekend and now he wants a 7.62x39 AR.  He likes the 7.62x39 round.  I guess that will be my gift to him for retirement, build him an AR...

if you had a real .308 (armalite) you would not be crying for mags

I'm not hurting for mags, no trouble at all finding DPMS LR-308 mags.  But I would like more options than DPMS or Stoner mags.  And stainless, what's there not to like?

As a matter of fact I do have two AR-10 mags I got during the ban when I "though" I would be getting an AR-10.  Finally after many other builds I went to build my .500 Phantom.  It turns out that except for 3 parts that don't cost more than $10 total all parts on the DPMS lower are standard AR-15 parts*.  So, when I did my lower build I could use the AR-10 where I had to get a lot of specialized parts including a new stock, or use the DPMS where I had all the parts needed for the build on hand and only had to buy $10 worth of parts (hurry up Brownells!).  Plus, the DPMS upper and lower were easier to obtain.  I did the DPMS LR-308 lower build tonight and I cannot say anything negative about it.  If I could change any part of it I would make the trigger guard replaceable so I could use the Map-Pul enhanced trigger guard.  The LR-308 trigger guard is made into the lower and cannot easily be changed.  Otherwise it is a very nice lower and will go great with the upper when Marty finishes with it.

*eta: I just found out that the LR-308 uses a special buffer and spring also, total cost on those two parts $30 MSRP.
