I've been wondering about this ammo for some time. Has Molon or anyone done any evals I've missed?
I'll probably limit it's use to a 14.5" with 1:7 twist at ranges of 100yds or less. For longer range I'm partial to MK262 Mod 1.
I've got a variety of rifles to choose from, all of which are 1:7 with 14.5 or 16" bbls except for couple of 1:9 Colts in 16".
Any personal experiences are appreciated, this stuff isn't cheap.

Lapster,
The 50 TSX will work in all twists 1/7 to 1/12. We tested it in barrels from 8" to 24". Good results on all, although at 12' test distance from the 24" the velocity was high enough we shed petals. Terminal was still very good. Normally one isn't shooting stuff at 12' from a 24" barrel so we were still happy with results. Jeff

What was terminal performance like out of a 7.5-8" barrel at different distances?  Curious

Thanks Jeff,
You guys are a class act and your ammo has always performed perfectly for me across the board, 5.56, .223, .308 match and .45acp.
I'm going to take the plunge and try a case of this 50 grain TXS. Sounds like it's going to be a very good defensive round to have in  inventory.

Same here; although, Tactical Triad has a good case price: $635.40.

Yard sale time!

Lapster,
You can expect expansion out to about 75 yards from an 8" barrel with a starting velocity of around 2600 fps. Lower limit of performance is about 2300 fps. You can get lower velocity expansion from other TSX bullets, but this one is designed do do well across a wide variety of circumstances including much higher velocities and through barriers. Jeff

S8, any chance of producing a 5.56 70gr TSX load similar to the 'brown tip' optimized round? Im guessing you guys need to fulfill your contracts first but you eventually came out with commercial Mk262 so I hope Im not getting my hopes up for nothing.

My 11 year old son shot his first deer with the 50 TSX this fall.  Used a 16" 1:12 Thompson break action. This is the best bullet I figured would stabilize in the 1:12" & it did fine.  We only recovered one bullet, but  it had shed all it's petals & lodged under the offside skin after the 130 yard shot.  He shot/hit it 4 times because the deer landed with it's rack wedged in the fence, holding it upright, making it look like it may still be alive. The other 3 rounds were pass throughs.
