So this is still on the Armalite website. What gives?

Technical Bulletin 6, Poor Performance of Winchester Q3131 Ammunition

ArmaLite has recently received complaints of poor extraction and ejection with some rifles, disfigured cases, and "blown" primer failures with some lots of Winchester Q3131 5.56mm ammunition. Close inspection of the rifles involved discloses no defect.

Review of Internet sites related to our rifles discloses that Q3131 is problematic in all brands of AR-15-type rifles. We conclude that the ammunition is suspect.

We therefore recommend against sustained use of Q3131. If you have any on hand, we recommend that you return it at the first sign of failure.

We absolutely recommend against using Q3131 in Law Enforcement or other applications requiring absolute confidence in ammunition.

We will provide more information as we get it.

END QUOATE

THoughts?

You do realise that is over 6 years old right? Back in 99-00 there were some issues with Win q3131. AFAIK and based on the reviews on here I would not hesitate to use it.

If I remember correctly, there were two types of Q3131 available. Q3131 and Q3131A. Q3131 had problems while Q3131A didn't experience any problems.

Has anyone delt with any of these problems and what were they?  Was the ammo Q3131 or Q3131a?  What lot/year?  How many rounds malfuctioned per box?

Thanks to Marylands AR15 Shooters Site.

"However there have been problems with some lots, mostly made in 1999."

"These potentially 'bad' lots have been identified as: PD50, PD90, PF40, PC22, PG62, PF52, PF11, PL31, & PN02."

This was Q3131 ammo, not Q3131A.

In that PN02 lot I had one box that had 2 blown primers.  I had to stop testing the next box (I was running through my chrony) when I noted a MV reading of 150fps FASTER than M193 spec.  I didn't even finish testing the 20 round box (I was not interested in any more blown primers or risking a Kboom).

I feel good enough about Q3131 to buy 1000 rounds from ammunitionstore.com yesterday. This is obviously is an alert on an old lot. Thanks for the thoughts.
