Anyone else see the brass cased / battle pack / NATO headstamped Wolf ?
I ordered 2K. Back ordered untill 1/13/06 Hopefully I'm not letting the cat outta the bag too early for those in the know. |
It shows up, but when you add it to your basket, it's on backorder and won't be in until mid feb. This could be interesting!
Bummer ... would be more interesting if it were priced like the Steel Cased Wolf ....
Screw that, it is more expensive then just about anything. Then tack on the 'usual' extra heavy surcharge SG adds...
$239.97 Club Price $227.97 |
Tagged for follow up. Looks kinda high to me though.
I can buy winchester Q3131 locally for the same price, and not have to pay shipping. Even though I am a member of the buyers club, I think I will pass. Maybe the price will come down later after they get more on the market. |
I am thrilled to see this.... but it is still Wolf, and at that price - they can keep it.
Remember - first runs of anything can be "iffy" If this was $150/K, I'd be interested. But that stuff is gonna be $250/k by the time it gets shipped. I can damn near buy Black Hills for that! |
I'm pretty sure Wolf contracted with the privi partisan plant in yugo to make the brass cased ammo they are coming out with (the hunting ammo, etc). I suspect this would be coming from there too? If so, they make damn good ammo!
Is it me or does this look like South African Battle Packs? I read a thread a few months ago that SA was now allowed to import new mfg. ammo now. Isn't Wolf just an importer anyway, they just have Tula or Barhnal just put it into a Wolf wrapper?
SA wasnt boxer primed. All battlepacks look similar - and since he doesnt have any yet - he is likely using some stock photos. |
$240 for 1000 rounds? Holy snikes! I can buy WWB locally (Wal-Mart) including sales tax for $210 and I don't have to join any club. |
get the price down below $170/k and I will stock up. At this price, I will shoot the tried and true q3131A or the xm193 from federal
TXL |
"NATO MilSpec XM193" ??
.223 and not 5.56 ?? Should be interesting to see what this actually is. |
Anyone else find it odd that they call it XM193 instead of just M193?
It's because most people who do purchasing and requisition have NO CLUE what the details are...
SG has learned a thing or two though... which is why on their pictures of 5.56 "mil-spec" ammo they cover up the part of the box that says XM193PD. If you don't know that is PD, your screwed... but most who buy it have no clue either.... so ignorance is bliss until a KABOOM! Rmpl |
That's pretty steep for an unknown? Win 3131 is $225 out the door at my local shop, and I know it's OK.
the whole XM193 and 223 thing makes me suspect some advertising fraud here.....
This has all the catch words guaranteed to make us salivate- which is what makes me skeptical...
"XM193" "Wolf" (for some, not me) "Battlepack" "Brass cased", "reloadable", "NATO"... I'll wait for now |
I believe Wolf now owns privi partisan. And it's to rich for my blood, for that price I have better choices available. |
Yeah... that's what I paid for the real XM193 last month from Weidners. Just remember to post your review in this same thread. |
I'll wait for someone else to buy this first. I am interested to see what it is, but I don't like the price.
Call me when they sell it for the same price as steel-cased green-laquer wolf...
Untill then, I'll stick with the old stuff - no jams & I don't mind the 'Wolf Smell'... |
I bought 2000 rounds of Port linked .308, advertised as Boxer Primed, fully reloadable!, that was good ammo but most definately was NOT reloadable. When I called to report it they apologized and said they'd send me a return shipping label and credit me for the purchase. I told them they had to be nuts if they thought I was going to haul a couple of hundred pounds of ammo out to UPS on my time because of their mistake. Their solution? Send me a coupon!
So long, Sportsman's Guide! BTW, they still haven't corrected their ad: www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=217612 The moral of this story is to always treat Sportsman's Guide ads with a healthy dose of skepticism. |
I heard they were going to make/release some of this a while back. Wonder what it REALLY is?
When it gets down to about 150-180 I'll get some but Im not paying those prices yet |
I just use Black Hills stuff. A little lower powered, but more accurate. Same price too!
Like everybody else said... expensive for Rusky ammo. You can get xm193 for less then that so why would you even consider Wolf at that price.
The only reason Wolf sells it because its cheap blasting ammo. I have never shot it in my AR. Their 00 buckshot I have used and its great. Seems like who ever put that ad together had a little too much eggnog!! |
+1 I'm a Wolf fan, but that price is rediculous. And to the guy above saying to buy American, I would if it didn't cost my left nut for a case of ammo. Wolf lets us College guys shoot AND eat WIZZO |
I checked Wolf's web site. No mention of the brass cased ammo. I doubt it's true.
It's pretty clear SG is putting this out there before they have all the facts straight, just trying to hype up this ammo. Hopefully we'll get the straight poop on this soon. The price is pretty rediculous though.
It's the first thing I thought of. |
This whole scenario is weird. Wolf made its reputation on cost - cheap blasting ammo. I think most guys would pay a premium for boxer brass, but that's ridiculous!

Clarification concerning my BUY AMERICAN post.
To me the name of the game is to shoot. The more the merrier. If you feel your rifle likes a particular type of ammo, by all means buy it and use it. Some people have to make a choice, which in my opinion would be quantity over quality. In other words, you've got X amount budgeted to buying ammo. You like to shoot, and the more ammo you can afford to buy, the more you can shoot. The more you shoot, the happier you are. OK, that makes "some" sense right? What doesn't make sense is when you can purchase a tried and true American product for less, but you don't. Lets just use Federal XM193 for an example. Wideners sells it for $210 a case. Sportsmans Guide is selling this new Wolf brass cased XM193 for about 20 bucks a case more. We don't know how good or bad this stuff is, its not even on our shores yet. The only thing we do know is its not made here. Yet , some people are buying this stuff, already placing their orders. Are they just loyal Wolf fans? Are they just loyal SG customers? Explain it to me...I just don't understand! Wizzo: I know when you're on a budget, and you like to shoot, and the steel cased Wolf allows you to visit the range more often, it makes sense to be buying Wolf . But this stuff is not steel cased, and its for damned sure not priced like the steel cased Wolf FYI: I've bought 25k rounds PLUS in the last 4 months of 7.62 Nato....NONE of it made in the USA. Some has come from SG...the linked Portugese stuff (about 13k), some of the Belgian FN stuff (2k), another 10k of SA and Aussie I got from Polygun. All of this ammo my M14s LOVE. I bought it because I don't think its going to be around forever, and firmly believe in STACKING IT DEEP. I do shoot Barnul and Wolf in my AK's. I buy AMERICAN from the CMP for my Garands. I don't want to be a hypocrite. As you can see, I buy foreign made ammo too, but if I could buy Lake City 7.62 or M2 ball for less than what I've found above, I'd buy it! (Ok I could buy some cheaper Korean M2 ball, but its corrosive) In this case the Wolf is MORE money than good ole USA Federal or Winchester and much more than the Lake City PD stuff...and for all we know, its certainly not known to be better. I don't want to piss anyone off. Its a free country (yeah right), we can buy whoever's ammo we want...execept our own government's surplus....thank you Mr Klinton.................... Happy New Year Everyone..lets hope it's a good year for all of us. |
