CMMG now has .300 AAC Blackout barrels uppers and rifles. There will be more configurations and many options available Here are some pics and specs.... Our M300 Barrels offer gas ports at options at the pistol or carbine position. It is possible to mount a standard .750 gas block at the carbine, mid or rifle position. The M300 barrels is the most flexible barrel of its kind. Barrels start at $199.95

I haven't read too many people having this issue, though. The only down side I can see (having no hands-on experience) is the limited effective range compared to 5.56 or 6.X variants. Remington is supposed to be making .300BLK factory ammo. .300 Whisper from Corbon will likely work (reference the above thread). Otherwise, it just uses modified 5.56NATO cases. This seems to be a good alternative to the 6.8 or 6.5. Only a barrel change to change calibers. You keep the magazines and capacities that you are used to and equal power to the 7.62x39 which is a proven man stopper. If you go sub sonic with a suppressor it is very quiet from what I've seen.

Can shoot from 110 to 240 grain projectiles. Very efficient, like 6.8, in shorter barrels so less or no muzzle flash. Subs with a suppressor are really fun and cycle reliably. The ability to switch from a mag of 220 grain subs to a mag of more potent 110 grain supers on the fly. Plus 5.56 parts redundancy with mags and bolts. ETA: If you reload this is cheap given low powder charges and 30 cal surplus projectiles. You can covert your 5.56 brass into 300BLK brass so there again is a big cost / availability advantage over 6.8. |

For those of us looking for a shorter barrel, say 8 inch, is that a future possibility?
And if not, are there any drawbacks to getting a barrel and then having it cut down to 8"? Don't know if the WASP finish would affect this or not. |

Folks, before to get all tweaked about the velocity and trajectory remember that this round was designed for subsonic/suppressed use. Its not going to replace 6.5 or 6.8 because the bullet is not going to go fast enough. I have fired it both suppressed and un-suppressed and I am very impressed. Un-suppressed it is not much louder than .22 rimfire pistol. I was able to make 200 yard hits on a steel target 5 out of 5 times. I love it! I am going to buy one.

Any word on 8-10" barrels? or would it be best to cut down a 16" pistol length system to say 8" or 9" and open the gas port alittle??? Guess it would be just as cheap to go to one of the other guys that have the short barrels in stock, considering this question always gets shot down or not answered.. Id rather buy one from cmmg, sucks

I would really like to see a 14/14.5" (with perm brake) lightweight profile chrome lined barrel produced. I have no use for subsonic rounds personally, so I am not sure what the preferred gas system should be for the supersonic loads. I am really exited about this caliber offering over some of the others that have been released in recent years. My build into this is at the "research stage", I hope to see it come together.
