As many of you know, the SAR (Scope Accessory Rail) has been released with great success.  (Btw, I am happy to report the SAR 1 and 3 units are now with some boys over a FT. Bragg getting a great workout!)  Red dot BUIS sights were my primary requirement for the SAR.  Over the last few years I’ve been working with MANY red dot sights and I have noticed a few shortcomings, enormous price and durability.  Over the last few years others and I have shattered a few “plastic units” during room clearing and other high-speed drills to say the least.  I also noticed the price of these plastic (and metal) red dot sights going higher and higher over the last several years as well.  For the last 9 months I have been working with a manufacturer to get out a new metal red dot sight, the RDP-II.  After several prototypes with different mounting solutions and bright LED’s, I am offering the final result!!  The new RDP is a machined aluminum housing with a multi coated glass lens and a 3 MOA dot.  I’ve painstakingly worked with the LED on the unit and during the brightest environments the 3MOA dot is very bright. The unit works off of a photo sensor and will show indoors with a dimmer dot. The units sensor will not see in the darkest environments without some ambient lighted conditions.

Last weekend I officially released the units to all my local LE Dept's, tactical shooting club and here on the ARFCOM EE.  I sold out the initial batch in 2 days!! The response has been great and another batch is inbound within two weeks!!

Quoted: I'm a long time user of these miniature red dot sights, presently I have two old Optima 2000 (only one of which is still working ), a Docter on top of the TA31DOC, a FirePoint on Vic's scope accessory rail, and just got this new one last Sunday, sitting on my Leupold and ARMS setup. The dot is very bright, more so than the Docter which isn't a year old (not sure if it's a battery issue), it seems to be very closely related to Docter. In my opinion this is how much these mini red dot sights should cost.  Last Sunday a former Army SF related a story about his buddy's rifle topped with a TA01NSN with a Docter sight fell from the Hummer, the Docter was facing down at an angle, the fall destroyed it.  The point is, metal or plastic, these sights do not have the mass to withstand a 6ft fall and therefore should be easily and inexpensively replaceable. First off thanks Duffy for the compliments.....The site is being very well received thus far.  I needed to succeed with a durable and economically approach to a red dot site and I think I struck a good balance.  It seems many of the red dot sights out there when purchasing a complete package with a base, mount, etc. is spiraling higher and higher for their use; at $300, $400 and $500!...I found this perplexing.

As for the tint, indeed it helps with outdoor use and in NO way obscures the image for use indoors. The camera indeed plays a big role with this tint.  Another reason, I sometimes hate doing NV through the tube shots at night....The camera gives a false impression at times. Thanks!

If you have a Doctor base of some sort attached to the ACOG, the RDP will fit.  I do not know about what Larue uses on any of their mounts. Hope this helps.

I would strongly suggest that you add an on/off switch, as that hood will be lost the first time you are in action (whether practical rifle, sandbox, urban, or brush). Once you are without the hood, you have a fixed limited battery life. Less important, an auto-off feature (perhaps after no motion sensed for 2 hours, there are miniature accelerometers you can use now).

We attempted to keep the RDP as LOW cost as we could with sacrificing quality.  Thus far we think we've achieved this .  As for the hood off, our sight will last a VERY long time.  I think the Doctor Optic last NUMEROUS months with the hood off.  Hope this helps.

The first production units I received, I had the hood off for 4 weeks continuous and then I had to sell it! If I can finally keep one in stock, I can let it sit out for a LOOONG period of time to get a firm number.  We are looking at 800+ hours though. Hope this helps.

It is really your apple to crave.. you want ultra strong, hellish long battery life.. go with a Aimpoint T1 at 500 plus a unit.. If you need a back up mini red dot, red dot for your pistol, red dot on your shotgun and you are not too worried about the battery life.... this is it.  and if you want durable, LaRue Iron dot can be used since this unit basically run a similar mounting configuration as the doctor. hope this helps. And a big thanks to Vic for bring a high quality sight at a low price that everyone can take advantage of it.

The huge batch of recent arrivals of RDP's are selling extremely well!  All backorders were shipped out this week!  Some Army types out east got a few samples in the mail this week for some play testing this weekend.

The two main differences between the Doctor and the RDP is the mount, body housing fasteners and the lens itself.  I have two early versions of the actual doctor. (I guess Gen 1), I even have a few of the ultra $800+ mil-spec version from several years ago. The RDP is slightly brighter than these versions. I have not handled the Gen II Doctors or whatever generation their up to so I do not know what the differences are, except by what you just mentioned, "could be a wash."  In the area of the body housing, I wanted to insure the body would fit other ACOG style of mounts that use a doctor base, i.e. why I have included an extra set of screws for this requirment if so desired. Also I am using a 3 MOA dot and we tried MANY varying levels of LED brightness.  We had to be VERY careful NOT to distort the dot with too much output. A 7 MOA dot can get away with a higher output.  I hope we struck a good balance of quality and price! There is NO reason I needed to charge $300+ for a red dot sight IMHO. I could have also charged over 100 bones for my new SAR units which I chose not to and they will stay at $79.00.  Thanks again for the mini-review!

They fit all the Trijicon's ACOG mounts that utilize a Doc Op mount and fit perfectly with my SAR's (Scope Accessory Ring Rail). I wanted the this to be the #1 priority for the RDP. I cannot speak for Larue, (they do that well enough at times) so I do not know anything about what Larue utlilizes for their mounts. I also do not need any of their red dot sight scope mounts since I sell a much more versatile SAR unit!  Hope this helps.

Sorry if I confused you on this....The SAR units (via the pics) are actually a 30mm or 1" ring with a rail attahed. The SARS are for mounting on a tubed scope or any type tube that has a 30mm or 1" diameter.

The RDP will work with any Trijicon ACOG mount that has doctor optics base that they make for the doctor optics mini red dot sight. Hope this helps.
