I'm a long time user of these minature red dot sights, presently I have two old Optima 2000 (only one of which is still working ), a Docter on top of the TA31DOC, a FirePoint on Vic's scope accessory rail, and just got this new one last Sunday, sitting on my Leupold and ARMS setup.

The dot is very bright, more so than the Docter which isn't a year old (not sure if it's a battery issue), it seems to be very closely related to Docter.

In my opinion this is how much these mini red dot sights should cost.  Last Sunday a former Army SF related a story about his buddy's rifle topped with a TA01NSN with a Docter sight fell from the Hummer, the Docter was facing down at an angle, the fall destroyed it.  The point is, metal or plastic, these sights do not have the mass to withstand a 6ft fall and therefore should be easily and inexpensively replaceable.

Thanks to Vic for bringing out another winner

The Blue tint looks very heavy. I know this aids in bright lighting conditions but dang!

My Pride Fowler is about half that tint (or less). Is this a camera/flash effect or is this an accurate representation?

No flash was used.  Indoor shots seem to accentuate the tint, Vic's picture of it outdoors looks lighter

I talked to Vic about the tint, I later realized that while I'm not used to the tint on the mini red dot, it's been around on other reflex type sights for years: Trijicon's Reflex, S&B Short Dot, and Aimpoint all have some tint.  The Reflex has a polarizing cap that can turn the sight picture completely black, so I'm convinced the tint really doesn't matter.

Nice, can this unit be adapted for a TA-11D?

So would this work on a TA11D with LaRue's LT635?
Thanks, Harley

The included hood!  Thanks!

I have a Dr. Optic so this looks very much similar / same. Including the hood as an on/off switch.

I would strongly suggest that you add an on/off switch, as that hood will be lost the first time you are in action (whether practical rifle, sandbox, urban, or brush).

Once you are without the hood, you have a fixed limited battery life.

Less important, an auto-off feature (perhaps after no motion sensed for 2 hours, there are miniature accelerometers you can use now).

Just a though but it would be nice if someone offered a side mounted manual rotary switch to control brightness.

I know this would require the sight to be made a bit taller but this would also bring the mini’s into the realm of the Aimpoints/Eotechs.

This would also eliminate the main weakness of these kind of sights; completing shutting off in low lighting conditions.

Just a thought.

I have been testing a RDP for a month now.  It has been mounted on my AKM, my 6.8 MRP and my Benelli.  Currently this unit is mounted on a Benelli M2 that is assigned to a Los Angeles Sheriff Dept SEB K9 deputy.  He is the primary product tester on the team and he has been using it for a week now and founf the sight to be as good as the Aimpoint T1 minidot he has for eval two weeks ago.  with the head up dsiplay type, it is easiler for the user to locate the dot instead of having to find the dot inside a smaller tube.  but in the ebd, the 500 T1 would probably be a stronger unit with longer battery life..

It is really your apple to crave.. you want ultra strong, hellish long battery life.. go with a Aimpoint T1 at 500 plus a unit..

If you need a back up mini red dot, red dot for your pistol, red dot on your shotgun and you are not too worried about the battery life.... this is it.  and if you want durable, LaRue Iron dot can be used since this unit basically run a similar mounting configuration as the
doctor.

hope this helps.

And a big thanks to Vic for bring a high quality sight at a low price that everyone can take advantage of it.

Which SAR mount would you recommend for use with the LaRue SPR/M4 LT-104?  I'm using a Leupold VX II 1-4x

Nevermind - I'm the dumbass that didn't read the whole thread.

OK I got to try one of these out and used a Dr Optic for quite a long time.  I see several things being posted about this optic I would like to address.

1.  The hood is an off switch.  This is false.  The hood only covers the light sensor and makes the units dot less bright.  It is always on.  If you put it in your safe when not in use it is the same as having the hood on as the light sensor receives no light.  The Dr Optic is the same in this regard.

2. The unit turns off at night.  This is false.  The unit is quite dim but completely usable at night or in complete darkness. It automatically adjusts to ambient light. The Dr Optic is quite usable at night as well.

3. This unit is brighter than the Dr Optic.  False.  There are several genrations of Dr Optic sights with varying brightness.  I would say they are pretty much equal in brightness.  If I had to give a nod I would give it to Dr Optic on their latest generation units. Older generation units could be diffferent. It is so close as to be a wash however.

I will say that I was handed this unit and not told what it was at first.  I was CERTAIN it was a Dr Optic.  Its the same size, materials and construction.  The adjustments are even in the same place, the light sensor in the same place, etc.  I honestly thought someone removed the silkscreening on a Dr Optic when I first picked it up.  The adjustment tools are even the same as the Dr Optic.

If you are thinking about one of these optic I would say buy without hesitation.  I hope Victor keeps the price where it is.  I would like to know the battery life of the unit.  It is my only concern.  The mount with locking ring was even high quality.  I dont know how Victor did it but he has a gold mine with these little sights.

The Dr Optic unit I used was Gen II and the Gen III are brighter still.  I dont know if they have anything past Gen III as they became so hard to find and expensive my Dr Opic interest kind of trailed off.  Kudos to you Vic for offering these at this price.  I WILL be buying one.

I just wanted to clarify... these will fit any mount that is set up for a Dr Optic?  They fit the Larue scope ring mounts?  Do they fit the ACOG mounts for the Dr Optic?  This thing just seems too good to be true.

They fit all the Trijicon's ACOG mounts that utilize a Doc Op mount and fit perfectly with my SAR's (Scope Accessory Ring Rail). I wanted the this to be the #1 priority for the RDP. I cannot speak for Larue, (they do that well enough at times) so I do not know anything about what Larue utlilizes for their mounts. I also do not need any of their red dot sight scope mounts since I sell a much more versatile SAR unit!  Hope this helps.

Vic

Just to clarify,
Which SAR unit do I need to mount on an ACOG?  SAR1 or SAR3.
Thanks.

Just received my RPD.  Fit and finish are perfect, the box it comes in is professional and includes a no-brainer zeroing disk tool thingy and required tools.  Very pleased so far and will report back later with range report.  Need a riser to use it on my carbine.

It's here but it's dark outside so these pics will have to do. =(

Here it is hanging off the side of my DSA stg58 via a GG&G offest mount + a YHM 5 slot angle mount.  I drilled two holes in the top cover to run a dummy cord.

Cover off & ready to go!

Sight looks great & is bright! I'll great some daylight pics tomorrow.

Was a pleasure to deal with Vic! Thanks again!
