Transitional bolt catch on it too. That's pretty cool for a SP1. Don't think I've ever seen a SP1 with one of those.

Does yours have that m1sniper? I forget now if your serial # is before or after this one.

No,mine does not have the transitional. and mine is MUCH later 118X.  It's a low price right now especially for one that early.Someone should write him and see if he has all the goodies that go with it..I hope one of our guys gets it!!!

Are you talkin about the white dot?? If yes,it's just a white sticker,,nothing fancy, and I don't know what it signifies.

That's what I thought too, but I don't have the $$$ for it.

Excuse my lack of intelligence.......but what is the deal with the take down pins?
Link Posted: 10/17/2009 6:53:11 PM EDT
[#8]
Rear takedown pin is the same as a GI one, front pin on ALL SP1's is a screw set,and is also a larger diameter hole..Just the way they made them..When you see adds that say "large hole upper" they are generally talking about an SP1 upper.

Ya know, it's funny that some dealer/guy selling a $200 POS will have 12 - 15 pics, but people selling good stuff only have 2 or 3, and then not of what I consider important features...

Too bad he has 0 feedback. Account established 10/9/09.

He'd get more bidders if he sold it through an established dealer.

no feedback=no bids from TexSquirrel...unless the item is under $25( or they're an Arfcom regular)
Should sell or buy a few items before trying to sell a rifle, IMHO.

Maybe he could provide you with references/feedback from other sites? Everybody's gotta start at the bottom somewhere, but I understand what your saying.

+1 for what he said^^^^ We all gotta start somewhere..He says he inherited from his grandfather, maybe he's never been into firearms and he registered on GB just to sell this off???

Something just occured to me about the white stickers on the mags, and I'm willing to bet it signifys that they have the 5 round block in them, specifically for SP1 rifles.... Easy identification for the packers at the factory...What say all,,does that make sense???

You are close.......The sticker is actually on both mags and hand written with a pen is either "5" or "20".  That is what came with my 1964 SP1

I sent him a e-mail asking about references shortly after posting my last reply here. He sent me back his e-Bay username (66 feedback @ 100%), home phone #, cell phone #, & a short story of his life. Says he inherited 90 guns from his Grandfather, including other AR15's, & likes to shoot them, but is selling this one cause "it is too nice to shoot". So it sounds like he is a shooter too, instead of just registered to sell all of Gramp's guns. He sounds GTG to me.

I'm gonna watch the auction & possibly bid near the end. My CC has been pretty good lately (balances paid off every month), so a little exercise would not hurt it.

I had a chance to pick up a 3 digit SP1 in about the same condition in the summer of 2008.
It was $2500 from the most expensive gun store in Houston.
I bought my Serbu 50 BMG with Leupold VARI-X III 6.5-20x scope and 100 rounds of ammo instead.
It was a tough decision because I was expecting a run on firearms and ammo and figured I wouldn't get another chance at such an early SP1.
I just made a deal on an SP1 so I'm not going to bid on th3 3-digit SP1.
Of course the one I'm picking up is not that early.
20 years after selling my Colt 9mm CAR-15, which I never liked, I'm finally buying an SP1 like I wanted when I bought my 9mm in 1988.
It is AR-15 #19.
Man am I sick with BRD.
Sorry for the slight hijack...but at least the first couple of lines are kinda on topic.

The last SP1 on GB brought $2000 and was relisted and brought $3500 ans still did not sell.  I guess $2500 to 3k for this one maybe

He'd be kicking himself in the rear right now if he had sold it for the $1200.00 he said he almost sold it for, before he done any research on it.

I have #323. Both mags have the white dots on them and are 20 rounds.

There is a "W" on the right side of the barrel under the FSB.  It's either a W or a M just depends on how your looking at it.  Could this rifle have had a Winchester 1/14 put on her or is that a M for metalic particle tested?

Mine (#323) has the same mark and is 1/14.

Are you sure one isn't blocked to 5 rds?  AFAIK the early SP1s came with a 5 and a 20.  Thats what the manual says.

Three thousand and seventy-five U.S. dollars.

Dang.  Missed it by that much.
1-14 barrel, transitional catch, edgewater buffer...I actually considered going to $2k.
Of course, I woulda went the extra thousand bucks... if he'd just had the box!

That's a lot for a cardboard box.

I was thinking about bidding $2500, but I ended up getting a later SP1 and a couple of NDS lowers, and an NDS-605 upper, and a waffle magazine instead.
Also I picked up a Colt 3x scope last night.
I wouldn't have won it and now I've got goodies on the way.
I already got the SP1.
I wouldn't mail that much to someone with no rating, except he had an eBay rating that you could check.

Honestly, I was being facetious!  The box would be nice, but not that nice!
I respect the "collector" mentality, but to me it's a rifle. If I don't need the box to shoot the thing, I ain't paying a premium for it.
Of course, my attitude is probably colored by the fact that I've never sold a firearm. If I were ever to buy one with the idea that I might want to re-sell to a collector, the box and the carton candy would mean a lot more.

I can certainly understand that, but to be honest, I'd probably approach him the same way I approach any other big-ticket seller––feedback or not. I make sure I have his name, mailing address (not PO box) and a landline phone number. First thing I do is run a reverse look-up on the phone number to make sure it matches the mailing address. Second thing I do is establish an email papertrail, making sure we've very specifically agreed to every aspect of the deal.  Third thing I'll do is actually call the guy.  That makes sure that the phone number is legit and ties the seller to the phone to the address...and it helps give me a feeling for the personality I'm dealing with.  It just helps me be more secure in his identity.

Then I only use payment forms that can be tracked (USPS money orders do fall into this category, but to be honest, it's a slow and pain in the rear procedure), and I mail it "certified" so I can track the envelope, too.

Once I send the payment, communication continues. I know when he gets the payment and I know when he's going to ship the item. I get the tracking info for the shipment, and I track it.  And the minute the item arrives, I inspect it to make sure it's what was advertised.  If necessary, I contact the seller immediately if I have any questions or concerns.

But most of all––if, at any time during that whole process I sense a problem...I stop.  If the seller can't satisfy my concern, I'll break the deal.
You have GOT to be willing to walk away, even if you're afraid of bad feedback.

I bought my Harley online, my old Mustang, some fairly expensive guns...so far, so good.

I just lucked up on sn 474 several weeks ago with original sling and mag, no box for less than $1,000.00. Needs to be cleaned up but in nice shape. Happy to find the link to the auction! Nice to know what the stickers mean too. Learn something new every day!
