Hi Everyone:

Ever since I discovered that I need a new barrel there is something new to learn.  What are the advantages of having a .223 Wylde chamber?  Does the chamber help in accuracy?

Also is a 1/8 twist too much for accurately firing M193 ammo?  I will also be using some PPU .223 75 grain match for target shooting.

Thank you!

Well the Wylde chamber is the in between of the military 5.56mm and a standard .223 rem. chambering.  Your basicly getting a tighter chambering than the 5.56 and you can still run most if not all 5.56 and .223, but you should be getting the better accuracy vs. a 5.56 chamber, but still not the accuracy of the .223 chamber.

A member here recently had problems with a .223 Wylde chamber and M193 - stuck cases - he had the chamber reamed to 5.56 and the problems stopped.

Your twist rate is correct for the heavier bullets, however the Wylde chamber is a hybrid that will allow using higher pressure 5.56 loadings while still giving good accuracy from .223 rounds. As with any compromise you don't get it all....I'd simply go with a 5.56 chamber and be done with it.IF you plan on handloading it doesn't matter, can tailor what you want to the rifle.

Go with a 5.56 chamber.

Has anyone had a good experience with M193 ammo and the .223 Wylde  chamber?  I am verry interested in the RRA Stainless 1/8 with the Wydle chamber.

Thank you!

I'm waiting on my RRA stainless 1:8 Wylde to be delivered.  After I break it in, I'll get some M193 and let you know.  Sometime next year, I'm afraid...

Is there really a one year wait on the RRA stainless barrels?

I have shot hundreds if not in the thousands rounds of 193 thru my Pred presuit I bought a little over a year ago. Back when I bought it I was a newbie and did not know anything about chambers, ARs, ect. but I still have never looked back at this purchase. Great gun.

My new WOA 1:7 Wylde barrel is badass.  Good, accurate, no stuck cases, even with Wolf which has given me problems in the past.  Shot plenty of 223 and m193 out of it last weekend without a single issue.

Not all Wylde reamers are the same. There is a couple different reamer makers out there making them, so tolerances can vary. I had one made by JGS that had a freebore dia. SMALLER than .224. It sholuld have been .2243 or thereabouts. Anyway, the body is supposed to be roughly the same as a 5.56 NATO chamber but the freebore is shorter and tighter in dia. than the 5.56 NATO chamber. If you are looking for the most reliable function but the level of accuracy is not as important, then a quality chrome lined 5.56 NATO chambered barrel is the way to go.

My 18" shilen with a Wylde chamber and 1/8 twist shoots Privi M193 under 2 MOA at 100 yards.

Is 1:8 only available in Wylde chambering?  That's the only way I've seen it so just looking around.

I have been waiting almost six months on a regular chrome lined M4 barrel, so It is not looking good.
