I was checking out some new mag plates and followers to rebuild some magazines and decided to see if Magpul had the aluminium presets for the M93 yet (they don't).

However, I noticed that they are selling the DET1 stocks at a discounted price of $165. These are apparently the first batch of Magpul stocks sent to the USSOCOM Marine Detachment One when they stood up. These stocks have been replaced by the M93AR version and it looks like Magpul is selling off the returned stocks at a discount.

I figure that as collectors items, these will be pretty tough to beat given the unique history. Even if you don't have any collector's interest - $165 for a Magpul stock is still about $60 less than the going rate.

DET1 Stocks

OK, I'll bite (and expose my ignorance).

What is the difference between these 'Det1' stocks, and the current models?

Well, the DET1 stocks are in a special tan molding color that was specifically requested by MARDET 1 and is not available in the rest of the Magpul line.

I believe these stocks are also the M93 version - so they have slightly different stock geometry, fewer clip attachment points on the buffer tube unit from the current production M93A. In the M93A, the cover over the buffer tube is flush with the sides of the stock to give it a more Crane/ACR feel and there are more clip points across that cover.

The M93A-R version that MARDET 1 is reportedly using now has a reinforced tail section in addition to the M93 changes. I do recall others mentioning that this section broke on the M93 stocks during stuck bolt clearance drills (slamming the toe of the stock down on the deck at a 45-60 degree angle to free a stuck bolt).

However, most all of that info is gleaned from just hanging out on AR15.com so it may not be 100%. I have no association with Magpul or DET1; but people who do hang out here. Hopefully they will chime in.

Damn, that new grip looks pretty sweet. Can't wait to see more pics of it in its various configurations.

That does sound like a great deal for a Magpul stock.

What sort of warantee do they come with?  The price is interesting, but for a T&E used piece, I am more than a little shy.  I've T&E'd more than my fair share of equipment, and I know how it was always treated....

Ultra cool.

Rich,

you are quickly becoming my favorite part of this site.

The stocks are not all gone, as Magpul mentioned in this thread.

If you go to the link, there is a picture of a coyote brown stock right above the DET1 stocks. They don't appear to be very close at all to me.

I tried to order one and it says that this item is out of stock.  Knowing that they have been used and maybe abused, I'll pass.

Quoted:Opps I had "inventory" switched on the item which incorrectly said it was out of stock. This is fixed now. If ordering I will send out the best condition I can find unless you specifiy different on the special instructions box (somepeople like things with more character).

Rich has fixed the bogus message, better hurry, I got two coming

richard...

thanks for sending the followers...

i have a question though... why did Det1 get rid of these stocks?  Did they get new ones or are they sing differnet stocks...?

also... what is the status of the metal re-enforcement plates for the stocks?

Thanks!

You must've missed the info on the Magpul site:

"These stocks were special order Tan in color and were used by USMC DET1 on their issue M4s from the day of the units activation. After 6 months of training these were replaced by the newer M93A in coyote brown."

I would guess an H buffer.

I got my two yesterday. I asked for a super nice one and a beater with lots of character. One was almost new and the other was not to far off. Great value.

I just got mine the other day from Rich as well.  The condition was better than I thought it was going to be in...

Personally, I don't think the color of mine is too far off from the coyote brown.....

Ooorah!

So looking at the picture of the USMC DET1 training, is it correct to assume that the stock was the only piece of furniture that was tan color?

Thanks,
