I was just wondering if anyone has any info or experience with these. I was at one of my local gun stores yesterday and they had some of them but I dont have any experience with Doublestar & I dont know anyone that has one. I guess I am wondering if is possible to get a bad stripped lower ? I can understand the parts in the lower being low or poor quality, but the actual lower itself is just a piece of metal. I dont know maybe I am way off so any info u guys can give me would be great, thanks in advance.

I've built on three DoubleStar lowers - IMHO they're one of the best values out there. GTG.

Doublestar is a great manufacturer, I have held many of their lowers and they all seem to have an excelent fit and finish.

I have just one build with a Doublestar lower, but it's been great.  I also used their lower parts kit without incident.

ETA: Their finish also matches pretty well.  I have a CMMG upper and it's a perfect match.

Good lower.  The only "blemish" on mine is the part that contacts the web of your hand, there is a few thousandths of an inch of "flash" left there.  Purely cosmetic, I've seen Colts with that machined too much, leaving a "flat" there.  This is one of those areas of CNC machining where it is impossible to get it perfect.

Hey, thanks for the responses guys this is very helpful. How much does a parts kit run?

I have five of them.  One of the nicest finishes on a lower in my opinion.

Midwayusa.com has lower parts kits available.  A Doublestar or DPMS parts kit will suit you fine.  All you need to do then is get a buttstock that you like, and your lower is complete.

I sold 400+ DoubleStar lowers in 2007. Nothing whatsoever wrong with them.

A little rougher machining than on some other lowers, but overall I like them (especially the older ones with the deep rollmarks).  I built my SBR using one.

Just built my first AR off of a Double star...outstanding fit and finish.  I will most certainly use them again for my 14.5 build down the road

I've built with two Double Star lowers. I don't care for their rollmark but otherwise, no issues whatsoever. Not sure why anyone would pay more (unless it's for the rollmark).

In a word, yes. They are worth it. High quality, good looks to boot ( logo ) IMO.

Just put one together using a CMMG parts kit. Everything was perfect.

You will not be disappointed.

It is good to go. The fit and finish is as good as my RRA.

Anyone have a good place to pick up a couple of these?

Brownell's has them (dealer pricing for C&R holders, etc. is pretty decent).

Double Star at Brownell's

Also, there's a guy in the EE selling them for $100 shipped. LINKY

About $60 for a LPK.

I think that the kits suck (loose carrier keys that need to be staked and lame barrels) but their LPKs and Lowers are great.

FWIW, I'm a snob.  Most of my stuff is Colt and LMT and I won't touch a lot of companies that most people think are great.

I have one DS lower with their LPK and I've run it hard.  Thousands of rounds without a hickup.  Other than the stupid rollmark (I don't actually give a shit, it could have a VietCong whore taking a dump-I'd still use it), they're great lowers.

They are excellent lowers. I don't personally care for the teflon finish but that goes for all the other tefloned receivers too.
