NIce Im building a 204 ruger AR to go prairie dog hunting this year also
Is that the Bushmaster stainless with the 9 twist barrel?
What are you useing for ammo? If handloads what bullet and load? A good friend of a good friend has a soybean opperation in South Dakota and I have had him and his wife out on my boat. Nice folks, they have told me to come out and see them several times,I could get into some indiscriminate slaughter! |
not too sure how much i put into it. maybe around $2k with all you see. i saved some cash then would pay with my debit card. save some more and get someting else. so it is all paid for. took me 6 months to do it.
its just a regular bushmaster varminteer upper. 1:9 fluted. last year i used 55gr balistic tip canned heat from Georgia Precision Arms. but that was with the 1:8.5 M1S 24" varmint upper. i just got this one done lastnight and need to try the 55gr in it. they do make a 52 gr BT HP i might be using those. i'll let you know. |
Nice. I love doggin'.
Try the 45 gr Winchester 40 round value packs. You might be surprised.... |
I am in the process of setting up another gun for pdog hunting also. A 24"RRA Varmint EOP.
This will be my first AR15. We are heading to SD this summer also. Went last year with a friend for the first time. What a BLAST. |
How well do the GA Arms reload perform/group?
I just emailed them to see if I can get smaller quanities to test in my ARs. BH Blue Box 50grn performed the best for me out of 6-8 types tested. |

Nice rifle, looks like fun!

If you would buy a silencer for that rifle you would not need hearing protection, nor would the dogs go under ground.
Bet those dogs don't have the guts to stick their heads up,anymore.
you would be surpirsed at how quiet the shots are out in the great wide open. plus p-dogs are dumb as a bag of hammers. you can make many shots before they get spooked. even then they still come out later so if you miss no prob. |
lol! Took me a sec but I saw it :p |
Ummm, nice pic. Did you run up an Knife that PD, as his inners are still in??? Good pic....lots of fun. Going to Montana April May this year. |
Im from WA state, I love to hook up with someone in MT for a dog shoot. I'll buy beers and a fat steak diner after the shoot of course
I use the 45g varmint ammo in my BM varminter with great results. |
Skulled him actually with the .17 HMR. |
Yeah there's a UFO in the background! |
He's playing dead? I do not see the usual terminal performance. Am I looking close enough yet? |
You're right. Actually I belly crawled up to the hole, and when he stuck his fat head up I gave him a solid butt stroke with my CZ. I'm pretty F%@$#^ serious about my prairie dog hunting. |

Eishh!
Do you have to clean up the mess when you're done? Johnny C! |
last year we killed about 30 in this spot we named "the valley of death" we went back there the next day and they were all gone! so i figured the pdogs were a superior race and policed and buried their dead. Then our Guide informed us that ferrets, coyotes, owls and even pdogs ate all the bodies. so see i am doing my part |
We like to think we are helping the environment, and the dead PD become Eagle and Hawk food!!!
They drop down and pick them up as we are slaughtering the rest of the field!!! |
Should have waited around to see if the coyotes came to eat the dead PDs.... double your pleasure
From the pics ive seen, a mount that moves the scope forward is needed to put a high power scope on an AR.
Im planning on putting a 8.5-25 x50 on my RRA EOP. The EOP raises the mount 3/4". That la rue mount looks nice but will my scope be too high? Do I need to get a flat top upper? Any other options??? I would like to keep the scope as low as posible. |

Dogs are starting to run here. I did some today. BTW anyone can gut'em, It doesn't count unless you split them in 2 and get yardage between the head and tail
