Thanks to all on the board (Especially Mogwa for the lower )...  This rifle was built using AR15.com contacts and EE for everything ...

Cool.  Have you had the commonly reported mag/feeding issues?

I have 2 30 round USA FrankenMags and 2 20 round USA Frankenmags.  I also have several MWG plastic mags ....

The MWG mags work fine ...  the 20 round USA FrankenMags work fine ...    One of the 30 Round Frankenmags works almost 100% ..... The other 30 round mag sucks  ...

Seeing my old 7.62x39 lower finally married up with the proper upper kind of brings a tears to my eye.  She looks so much happier than what she did spooning with a 5.56 upper.

Its was good doing business with you Dan.  Keep her oiled and properly feed with a steady diet of ammo and she'll do you fine!!

When you want to shoot drums, you can get a new lower.

Not a drum guy, but I've wanted one of those lowers for years so I could use the proper mags.  Other projects keep getting in the way.

Hey Colt,
I am planning to get a same setup in the future. Have several questions. What is the bore size in your Colt and what ammo are you shooting and what accuracy are getting?
Thanks

Very nice rifle Colt6721A3.  I started with a plain factory Colt 7.62x39 A2 and liked it so much that I built another similar to yours with the A3 upper and a scope.

With very little effort, I've gotten both rifles to run extremely well using a variety of USA and other frankenmags from 20 to 40 rounds.  Accuracy is outstanding with 0.9--1.1 inch groups at 100 yards all day long using the scope and some nice factory Remington 123 gr. FMJ ammo.  For general use I like the Vector Arms Cheetah ammo.  Still outstanding accuracy (1.4--1.7 in. 100 yd groups), clean, very reliable and cheap.  It's also all brass (both case & bullet) so no undue wear to the rifle.

The 7.62x39 Colts are among my favorite rifles and I shoot them (and in some ways like them) more than my 5.56 rifles.  I had no trouble getting these things to run great and I believe the bad rep they have is largely due to operator laziness.  The AR platform has many advantages so having one in this caliber is a real bonus in my book.

Nice rifle- I imagine mags are scarce? I have a setup in 5.56 on an AK platform- same deal, hard to find mags but love the rifle.

That’s a great looking rifle.

At one of our local shoots a guy brought a 7.62x39 upper for his M16, What a blast, I’ve wanted one ever since, just like yours.

I want to convert one of mine too. Last fall I hit a hog about 14 times before he went down with .223, and he wasn't dead (yet) and tried to get back up.

I say 14 times because that's how many shots I fired and his head was trashed too bad to count, but all shots were at a range between 20 yards and 6 feet.

I know that 7.62x39 will drill holes through an 8-9 inch oak tree while the 5.56 will not go through a 6 inch oak reliably.

How is the blast/flash/reportt through a 16-inch barrel?

What does the conversion actually require?

7.62X39 upper ...  thats about it ....  aftermarket 7.62x39 magazines are helpful if you want to be able to use more than 4 or 5 rounds at a time  ...

Hard to tell while shooting ... the recoil is slightly harder and my buddies tell me the report is definitely louder ...
