I had planned on testing some .308 loads today but got a wild idea to build this upper instead to shoot today. 16” SS 1:7 match carbine barrel (or Recce if you want to be tactical)
I took the carbine, 20rds of factory 77gr. ammo, and a target to paste over the bull. NO mat, NO spotting scope, NO bean/sand bags, just me on the grass, and harris bi-pod to support the rifle. 600yd range, real wind and lighting conditions to deal with. These folks are used to me bring out rifles with no zero, so the RO used his spotting scope to get me onto the paper, then I was on my own. It got dark quick, and the 9X scope with the 36mm objective is not ideal. I could see something in paper I was aiming at, but for the most part had to pretend I know where the middle was. Targets went up at 6PM, and my 6th shot was the first on paper out to the side. After each shot, I know I was hitting the paper, but I had no idea where. But – if this were in real use, I wouldn’t have a spotting scope either. As it turned out, I believe this to be as “real world” as it can get. I also wanted to see what a realistic rate of “carefully aimed” fire would be, and see how the barrel handled a little heat. After I fired the last shot, I dropped the mag, inserted the OBI, and looked over at my watch. Wow, where’s my camera!? It was about 9 minutes since I started shooting. I shot one round at a time, and was usually ready to fire as soon as the target came back up. Keep in mind – this is “aimed” fire at 600yds. I took my time, watched the wind, made adjustments as I thought necessary, and fired. I’m sure I’m not the only one who when shooting, gets into a groove usually toward the end. I was comfortable with my shots, didn’t call any out. I was happy as hell when I saw the target, and where he circled indicating my last 5 shots. What I considered aimed fire, has absolutely NO heat effect on this barrel! If I shot any faster it may change, but that wouldn’t really be as “aimed”, so it wouldn’t matter. So a bad guy, in a window with an RPK, 6 blocks away, wouldnt have a chance

Scope, schmope. Next week will be irons sights For what that is, 9X is PLENTY. A 4X ACOG would suffice, but I'd rather have knobs to turn instead of a built in BDC. |

I wish I had access to a 600 yd line locally. Farthest I've shot is 300 yds with my Bushmaster 308 and my SPR clone. Good job and nice rifle!!!!

Big Bore, very nice! Do you consider yourself a good shot, or can the average "recruit" do that?
 Questions: You said, "Wilson barrel, contoured by WOA." What are your barrel outside diameters under the handguards and forward the gas block? I'm wondering how light a person can go and still get that kind of accuracy at that rate of fire. Also, where do you get those short removable rails (at least I assume they're removable) that are on the muzzle end of your handguard? While not BB,
The PRI tube comes with those rails. While they are removeable - they are not QD removeable... |

You only focus on the front sight The best group I ever shot at 600yds, was with my Service Rifle and 80gr bergers. 8 shots, under 4". Took the pic with my Clie. Long story as to why they are in the 6 ring though

They HELP a TON. I always shoot better with a coat/sling than I do using a bi-pod. I've never shot much for "real accuracy" without a coat w/sling. Pulse bounce is pretty noticable with the sling on your bare arm. |
